Zinc vs Manganese Phosphate Parkerizing Solution

Touch up ? Hmmmmm

Never done such a thing, but I have done many M1 Garands, pistols, and M14's, but not an area 'touch up'.... It's an acid bath, basically.

Not sure if I used Zinc or Manganese Phosphate... I'm partial to PJ's Products parkerizing solution. Nothing fancy, just works really well.

Tell 'em Hungry sent ya!!

PJ's stuff is zinc, but final colour will depend metal prep and composition

If it's a small scratch, I've had luck using Birchwood Caseys Aluminum Black Metal Finish (yes I know, but it works on ferrous metals too)

Anything bigger than a scratch, you would need to reparkerize inorder for it to look half decent. It's easy-peasy as I'm sure Hungry will demonstrate.

As mentioned, grey is zinc, black is manganese. Which to use depends on what color you want and what metal you are using.

Depending what you need, Kyle Precision Arms offers a full MILSPEC manganese phosphating service.

The Aluminum Black did the trick! Put it on, give it a light scrubbing with fine steel wool and oil and presto, missing/worn park re-appears.

Thanks for the great tip. I would never have considered using anything for aluminum on steel.
