Hello Everyone,

I have recently acquired a brand new still in the cosmoline grease Yugo M48BO Mauser and would like to mount an extra scope I have (Bushnell 3200 3-9x40) to try it out during next fall's hunt.

Does anyone know where I could find the ZRAK scope mounts for this rifle, or have any experience mounting scopes to these Yugo Mausers?

Thanks very much for any input!

Why not buy an already sporterized or bubba'd rifle rather then ruin that one? It will only increase in value if you keep it original, and d&t will drop the value a lot.
Check tradex, dozens of 8mm/6.5mm/9.3mm/30'06 starting at around $250...you will lose that much at least by drilling 4 holes in the Yugo.

Oddly, ZRAK mounts tend to up the value of a Yugo Mauser. Especially if you have a ZRAK scope mounted. Go figure.

They are tough to find these days. Watch EBay like a hawk. And they are not cheap.

I think people mount the Yugo scope and mounts and advertise them as sniper rifles from the Bosnian conflict(at least some do). I don't know what the attraction would be to have a rifle that has shot innocent pedestrians but any firearm used in a conflict seems to go for more.

I have a zrak scope and mount put on my Yugo M48BO Mauser and apparently the screws were of poor quality according to my gunsmith who had to use one different screw as it broke during installation.

The borom will require bolt and safety (ie new trigger with side safety, bolt bent and ground) modification as it sits too low for the handle/ssfety to clear. That's why people used ZRAK/EAW etc, but that really puts the scope too high for any practical cheek weld. While OK for some wartorn ####hole as a makeshift sniper rifle, it's pretty ####ty for a hunting rig.
Sell it and buy a Zastava 98 that is already to mount a scope and go hunting....they start at $630 or so.

Not necessarily. For the most part these weapons created and used primarily by Bosnian ARBiH forces. The Serbians (who had the principal control of the JNA) took the majority of the arms stockpiles out of Sarajevo. The Bosnians managed to raid a few transports leaving the city, some of which some were full of Mausers in long term storage; along with some ammo. They proceded to make field expedient marksmen rifles with them. The ZRAK factory; which is located in Sarajevo was used to supply the optics and mounts. Both military and commercial optics of many configurations were used to build these rifles. They were built to combat the surrounding Serbian Army (JNA)

As for the snipers who killed innocent lives. Those were "soldiers of fortune" that used M76 and M91 rifles supplied to them by the Serbs... for the most part. Many renegade civilians, or militant factions took part on the carnage as well.

M48 known as Yugo Mauser was equipped with ZRAK scopes and mounts since 1948 when company was established in Sarajevo. Company produced many other optical and mechanical precision instruments fulfilling need for military high end equipment of that era. M48 equipped with ZRAK accessories is connection to former Yugoslavia rather than Yugoslavian bloody conflict in which Croatia and Serbia move in to rip apart Bosnia. It is a monument to rather peaceful times of prosperity and unity. M48 as obsolete rifle even then were distributed throughout civilian program of armament in a case of foreign aggression. Something similar to what Swiss have.

If you have a look at the eBay ad the mounts for the Yugo Mausers appear to be quite high like the zrak mounts which I assume will provide enough clearance for the bolt handle.

Has anyone ever heard of these Borom mounts?

Apparently they are made in Canada according to their eBay store.

There are so many knock offs of 'schwenkmontage' throughout Europe. Everybody is making those as it is most popular mounting system. It is sophisticated, adjustable detachable and yet holds a zero very good. Top manufacturers guaranty 10000 removals before losing zero. Only few gunsmiths in North America knows how to properly install those mounts.

As far as those 'Borom' mounts goes, judging by detail, finish and execution they look to me like Hungarian or Romanian origin. Not sure any more it was long time ago when I was browsing through catalog of some company from either of those countries and seen those. Usually they are half the price comparing to top German manufacturers.
