Howdy!
We made a recent video talking about a small — but important — tweak you might need to make when running an SKS with a mag well adapter: trimming the “front ears” on your trigger group.
Two Ways to Fix It
- Trim the Ears
- Use a bench grinder, file, or similar tool.
- Take them down so they sit flush with the surface behind them.
- Quick, easy, and effective.
- Widen the Channel
- Instead of cutting them off, you can machine or file a wider groove between them.
- This makes room for the magazine’s rear rib without changing the overall profile much.
Mark Before You Cut
The easiest way to know how much to remove?- Install your trigger group in the receiver.
- See how far the ears protrude past the crossbar.
The Benefit
Once trimmed or widened, your mag can seat cleanly and engage the bolt catch without obstruction. You’ll also be able to remove the mag without pulling the trigger group — and still use the OEM duckbill if you want. It’s a small mod, but it makes your SKS run smoother with a mag well adapter.
