    Bear Safety

There are a lot of bear stories in the news at the moment - this year there seem to be a lot about.

There was a story today about an encounter with a grizzly that was successfully averted with a can of bear spray:
    http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/edmonton/Wildlife+conflict+specialist+pepper+spray+backpack/9879365/story.html

Although, when you read the article, you'll see that the bear bit into the can. Please note, the manufacturers suggest you spray it at them!!

Pick up a can of Bear Spray at AmmoSupply.ca:

And keep it in your back pack like this guy did, or pick up a holster and wear it on your person!

We also sell 12ga Bear Bangers:
    https://www.ammosupply.ca/shop/205/

As well as 15mm centrefire kits (no PAL required!) that include Bear Bangers and flares (on Deal of the Day today for $29.99):

Do you sell just the TruFlare 15mm centrefire flares and banger by themselves?

Yes, we do! We don't have the centrefire bangers in stock at the moment, but they come in very quickly and are just $21.99 per box of 6. The flares we have in currently in red, green and white (red for emergencies and green/white for signalling) and you can find them at:

I'm doing the 3 day trip on Skyline trail in Banff this summer. First time in years I'll have camped without a firearm!

I'll definitely be stocking up on this gear

I regularly work in the remote bush, heli in camps. I don't always carry a gun. Some guys are just scared of the bush.

I walked the Brazeau Loop (80km) over 10 days in 2011. Being a provincial park that does not permit firearms I was not able to take my 12.5 870. I took bear spray and bangers. the first few days walking past piles of fresh grizzly crap on the trail and going to bed under the tarp looking over my shoulder took some getting used to... But after a few days you get over it. In retrospect my personal opinion is a firearm is a nice to have for sure, but do you really need it? I don’t know.. I tried the bear bangers and it’s hard to imagine a bear running towards that sound.. followed up with a shot of bear spray. There is something to be said for following back country etiquette and knowing how to pass through bear country to minimize incident. Can you still get mauled? probably. Can you still get mauled with a firearm? probably. If given the (legal choice) of carrying a shotty I will take it. But if I'm walking for days and days with a 60lbs + pack I may also value/agro against taking the extra weight... All depends on what you are comfortable with.

ROFLOL. You live in Kelowna (maybe one grizzly in there in the last 10 years) and you're so scared of the bush that you'd never go without a gun? That's crazy! Getting in a vehcile is FAR more dangerous. Hell, walking in a thunderstorm is far more dangerous than walking in the bush in Kelowna.

Get out, live life, have fun! Don't be scared of everything in the bush. Read a book on bear safety and enjoy the outdoors!
