Rings fully tightened, scope creeping forward after shooting??

Guys, lapping won't work.
The OP said the rings are loose even after the halves make full contact.
You could wrap some electrical tape on the scope to improve contact.
 
Then I would mark the position of the scope, use a few turns of electrical tape, and re-tighten.

Or get decent rings and trash those ####ty rings....
 
A single thickness tab of two sided tape on the top and bottom of each ring will take care of movement but will not allow you to shift the scope in the rings when setting up... so you have to get placement right the first time... it also keeps the scope from marking up. I use golfers grip tape.
 
If the ring halves touch then they're useless.

I personally lap all my rings to 90% and use a set of feeler gauges to keep the ring gaps even.

I have used Nightforce and Vortex Precision matched rings with very good success.

when I lapped my new burris XTR, they were off quite a bit. one of the caps was making contact just on the outer line.
the rest was maybe 30% contact.

Lapped this to maybe 80-90% contact.
The scope really doesnt move.

Keep your rings properly oriented after lapping.
 
My frustration with rings lately has been with the screws. I've had problems with the hex sockets stripping out.

cheap rings come with cheap screws that strip easily.

Quality rings come with quality torx screws that do not strip when torqued to spec.

I have used leupold and burris XTR and had no issues with screws or whatever else. torques fine, scope does not move.
 
usually what I have seen is that screws that have hex are on cheap rings, and strip easily.
Some cheap rings that I had stripped like butter at low torque.

usually torx screws do not strip.
