Can you get a decent rangefinder around 1000$? Anyone knows newcon?

What is the best rangefinder around 1000$?
(not really looking for binos with range, I already have good binos, and would rather get a separate rangefinder unit)

I know that the vectronix terapin is the best in it's class at around 2500$, but I'm not willing to spend 2500$ on a rangefinder.

My bushnell scout 1000 is not worth much on non reflective targets past 200 yards. It sometimes won't even range trees at 400 yards...
(one way or the other, it will not range a deer to a mile so I don't care about fixing it). Maybe the battery is just low, it's been 3-4 years, I don't really care about this one.

Are my expectations too high from a range finder? I would like to be able to range a deer to a mile.

terapin does it, but at a cost.

Swarovski laser guide 8x30 is supposed to range large reflective targets to 1600, but that probably means a deer to 7-800 yards.

I've found this online:

Can company, newcon optik
h ttp://www.newcon-optik.com/lrm2200si.html

7x mag monocular, 10-2200m, with angle measurement, for approx 850$ CAN online.

Looks promising if it actually works. But I can't really find any review or decent comments on it.

Anyone knows about it?

Thanks

I emailed newcon for more info also.

Something's wrong with your scout. Mine works out at least to 600yds on tree stumps. I don't shoot past that anyways.
I've read very good reviews of Nikon rangefinders. Their fast electronics allow for shortest ranging time and hence great precision.
But never used one.

I second that something must be wrong with your scout. I have a Nikon riflehunter 1000 that I paid $400 for and it will range reflective past 1000 yards and trees and fur to 650 pretty consistently.

not awnsering the question. I didn't ask about a rangefinder that can range trees to 650 (and game to less than that)

I remember ranging paper at 905 yard with my old Bushnell Elite 1500 Arc that I lost in the wood many years ago.

Maybe someone can chime in if the New Bushnell 1 mile is good.

You'll be hard pressed to find a consumer hunting grade unit that can range soft target that far. The laser class gets too high so you end up going with a specialty like Terapin. My question would be does the Terapin come with a tripod setup? I'm not sure I could hold still long enough at a mile to ensure I was actually hitting a deer. In most optics it'll look like a spec at that range.

Best of luck on your search!

I've got the Bushnell Fusion 1600 binoculars....they consistantly range to 1800+ yards....cost was less than 1000.00
I think the difference in the new 1Mile is mainly the readout display options.
I'm very happy with the Fusions.

I have a newcon 1800s and was using it yesterday and ranging successfully at 1263m. I started having some difficulty at 1900m. It is only supposed to do 1800m, but I got a couple at 1900m. The target was really hard to see and hold on though. 48x48 steel plate. I got mine for $550 from Tactical Imports. Anything around 1000m is easy.

so I guess their 2200 would work fine for the price. Looks like they would range better than the swarovski, but optics are probably less quality.
bonus is they give angle also, I asked them how they calculate the distance, do they use the rifleman's technique with the cos of the angle, or do they give the true horizontal, which is not that useful in fact.
jumping to their next better option is a 1500$ jump.

I read some reviews prior to purchasing and the general consensus was the Swaro had better glass, but was also more money. My 1800s doesn't have the angle calc, so I cant comment. glass quality is reasonable. Like I say, out to 1200m I didn't have any problems. We jumped right from 1200 to 1900 and I had a hell of a time.

Terrapin has the threaded hole for a tripod, I use mine on a tripod all the time. No other way to ping small targets that far (2000+ yds).

Oh I get it. Sorry.

Before getting my Terrapin , I bought some spray paint and a reflective clear coat. Don't know if the clear helped.

from the reviews I have read, the best commercial optic in this price range is the swarovski laserguide.

My question is, for a little more, the newcon 2200 looks interesting with the angle measurement and 2200m nato target reading. 600m more than the swaro.

but then again, I dont want to pay 1000$ and end up with junk.
