New M&P 15 first ar with pics

This is my first ar15
So decided to get something saucy and new as my whole collection is based around mil slurps... Got the M&P 15 from wanstalls and bought a few things for her and here is what she looks like...

Fit and finish I am extremely pleased with the price is very fair. It shoots very nice too...smooth and consistent 200 ends and not one jam. I would highly recommend this if your looking at a sub 1000 dollar AR. I don't have a range report I won't do one till I get optics. So my first ar and now I get the addiction with them. Next one will b next year can't wait! The furniture is magpul angle grip and ctr stock with a hogue grip all from brownells. Cheers

Did you add the front quad rail as I've never seen an M+P 15 w/o the forward assist yet having a quad rail (when new)? From the factory without the forward assist and w/o quad rails ect. the M+P 15's are the most affordable versions versus the ones with the forward assist and the quad rails ect.

Please, enquiring minds need to know.;)

Yeah I added the quad rail as we'll and it's the m&p sport no forward assist or dust cover
 
Just go look at one if you can they are really well made...if you want a rifle that is a great price point with good quality and don't mind not having a fwd assist or dust cover...the fa gets in the way IMO and I have never needed it ever in the thousands of rounds I've put down range with the ar or c7 and variants of c7. The dust cover IMO is pointless cause it's a range fun gun and I'm not crawling thru the dirt with it and it gets cleaned after every range visit. I was extremely impressed with it. Plus it will leave you coin left over for ammo, furniture, or optics. But the dd mk18 is really nice tho and would not be a good comparison as they are 2 different guns e.g. Barrel length, weight etc... But for 1500 ish I would be looking at a piston ar as opposed to a di. But that's me. You can also check out the nutnfancy review which is really extensive and got a excellent review as we'll on YouTube. Cheers

My wife bought her S&W MP 'Sport' AR 15 from Wanstalls. If there is a better rifle out there for the money, go for it. I put a Bushnell red dot on it, a Troy ambi-safety and mag release and ordered a rubber butt pad and MagPul grip for it.

You can buy a higher cost rifle with more add-ons, but probably not one better in quality. Any money saved can be put into setting it up the way you want. If the absence of a FA and dust cover is an issue, then pay for it on another rifle.

She has only put 40 rds of .223 through it, but around 250 rds of .22 LR using a CMMG conversion unit. Yesterday was shooting the rifle with the conversion unit at a .22 plinking target at 25 yds - offhand. The target plates are 2" squares and she was hitting them like clock work using the red dot. At 50 yds, it kept it's rds in a 4-4-1/2" group, again, off hand. Using the iron sights, it grouped 6" lower, but that is just a matter of sight adjustment. Ammo was CCI bulk.

It would do better from a rest, but since she can't shoot from a bench in a match, she won't do that. Once the ground dries up, I'll get her into position shooting.

I've only ever shot an AR once, but I want one. That being said, I don't know a thing about them. I don't even know what a forward assist is, or what benefit a dust cover would have in our range environments. Piston AR vs DI? Wha? :)
 
Never really considered that one when I bought my first but I gotta say it looks pretty damn ###y I'm sure it's been said already but welcome to the addiction:)
 
The FA (forward assist) button originated from combat experience in Viet Nam when M16's had ammo related problems that prevented the bolt from going into battery when the rifle got dirty. That issue has long since been resolved, so it's a redundant appendage, something like your appendix.

The dust cover does what it says - it covers the ejection port, preventing unwanted debris from entering the action and causing issues. When closed, it pops open on the first shot and remains open until manually reclosed, preventing small rodents and birds from taking up residence between bursts of fire.

Before buying a S&W MP AR 15 for my wife, we looked at a video of a guy who took one through a 1500 rd course at Gun Site. He deliberately threw dirt at the ejection port (when the S&W rep was not looking) and suffered no malfunctions. The rifle was not cleaned for the duration of the course, if I remember correctly.

The piston AR's have their fans, but many consider the concept to be a great solution to a non-existent problem. If it ain't broke - don't fix it ......

'Cept I was pulling your leg on one thing ..... the AR 15 (like it's military counter part M16) fires from a closed bolt. Even with the dust cover open, little critters can't gain entry.

And like the guys are saying - they're like potato chips. It's hard to stop with just one. There may be one in my future since the one in the house is registered in my wife's name .... ;>( (blush).
