Aimpoint T1 blob

Hey Guys,

I just bought a used Aimpoint T1 (came with all the manuals box and price tag etc.), but I was wondering if the red dot is supposed to be like a blob. I heard it might have something to do with ones eyes (my right eye is better than 20/20, while my left is 20/10 i believe). When im looking at it from a distance it looks ok, however when i bring the red dot close to my eye it looks more like a spiderweb, than a full dot. When i try to take pictures it looks much better than what i see looking down the sight. Just wondering if anyone else has this experience or if im just over nitpicking.
 
Sounds like astigmatism. Try it outside shooting for real and it may not be an issue..... I notice it from time to time just looking through red dots specially indoors for some reason, but I don't find it an issue when I'm actually shooting.
 
The easy thing to do is to get other people to take a look or try and take a picture of the dot and see if it looks better in the picture.
 
Likely an astigmatism as the boys above have mentioned - jono probably has the best solution by adjusting the brightness.

Other than that - the optic may not be the one for you.

I am in the same boat - fortunately I found the T1 (for my CQB), and the Trijicon Reflex (for my shotties) work well - several did not however ....

same here, call it part of aging- lol, serously it doesnt bother, I"ve using this RDS for a while now from cmore/ pistol to my AR- t1, just dont try to focus on the dot, but on the the target( impose the dot on the target)
 
I have the same problem with an aimpoint pro that I bought. Turns out that it is my eyes. I have astigmatism in my left eye. When I'm outside or focusing on the target and not the sight the problem goes away. If it looks normal in the picture you took, then it is likely your eyes.
 
It is confirmed as I went to a recognized Aimpoint Dealer and i had the same type of red dot blob. IM only 25....this is BS. But the sight looks good otherwise. At a distance it looks like it should. Thanks guys.
 
Most of the RDS usually have this effect, the bigger dot I go, the more the red dot is defined ,4moa or bigger.

Here is the important fact most fail to understand, you must focus on the TARGET not the DOT. I can make my dot look weird if I look at it as well.

Yup.

Most guys focus on the dot, in the store or house. Take it outside and look through it at the target with both eyes open. It's a red dot, not a scope ;)

Also keep the power turned down, you don't need to go up to 11 unless it's extremly bright out or playing with Spinal Tap :D

I have been keeping it mostly in the 6-8 range. But thanks again for the tip :). Im still new to the red dot scene and have begun to live by the buy once, cry once mentality.
 
Astigmatism is not necessarily correlated with age, it's simply a mis-shaped lense in one or both of your eyes.
Even children can have this condition.
Outdoors in the brighter ambient light your pupils contract, which minimizes the negative effects from less-than-perfect biological lenses.
Astigmatism can be corrected to some degree with corrective lenses, contacts or Lasik surgery too.

1. Turn down the brightness
2. Focus on the target, not on the dot
3. Aim at something that is 25+ yards away
 
I have numerous Aimpoints and I have found the past 10 years or so the dot ( or Eotech recticle ) is misshapen even when "focus on target not the dot "

Not only I have astigmatism but corneal dystrophy ....oncoming headlights at night look like the Aimpoint dot !

I have gradually transitioned most of my AR's to ACOGs . Not as noticeable problem unless in bright light ( bit of tape over light pipe solves that ! )
