Plated 148HBWC

I'm trying to understand the benefit of plating wadcutters in the first place.

Berry's makes a really nice HBWC bullets but they recommend that they have to be going at least 800 fps to work properly and that's faster than a lot of PPC loads. As Tex said, I'm not sure of what advantage plated WCs have. As long as they are not too soft & have good lube, leading should never be a problem at PPC velocities. I've tried them and saw no difference between them and my cast 148 gr. DEWC loads.

Agreed, do not really see what advantage they would have. I don't have any leading issues now with my BDX 148's but was more curious than anything. Should be a lot cleaner to shoot smoke wise i would imagine. I do not want to run them more than 750 fps. My 2.7 bullseye loading chrony's just over 700fps.

what gun/barrel length?

less lead exposure while loading a shooting would be the biggest pro's to me, but if the plated cost more i would just stick with lead.

I loaded some upside down and found the plated bullets expanded well and held together. Blow up jugs of water real good.

I love loading them backwards :D easy to make a soft load for females but still makes fruit explode very well.

I have a few people that buy them off me, less cleaning and smoke is generally the reason

Shoot them in my Ruger Blackhawk 38 SP and like them, they seem to smoke less than the reg lead and load smoother in the press, quite accurate with Bullseye @ 2.8

I had the same experience loading lead 148gr HBWC's downside up......... at 100 yards they went through one side of a 40gallon steel drum and left a nice welt on the other side.Expanded to about 70 caliber.Skeeter Skelton used them for a hide away gun in his 2" snub nose .38's when he worked for the Texas Border Patrol .Like the .455 manstopper round AKA "flying ashtray"...........Harold

I use 2.6 of Bullseye under a speers 148 HBWC through a model 10 with a Charlton 1x6 barrel. I tried Berrys plated 148's but I found the speers to be a little more accurate and consistent. YMMV

You're not exposed to enough lead while shooting for plating to matter, but the assorted tree huggers think lead bullets are evil anyway. Any HBWC will be as accurate as any other with swaged bullets being the best.

CamPro plated 148 grn HBWC under 2.8 grns of Bullseye work great in my 52-2. CamPro indicates that a heavier roll crimp is required but mine shoot great with a light roll crimp seated flush. YMMV.
