225 Winchester, info please?

I just stumbled across a few boxes of 225 Winchester ammo at a local gun shop. I've been around guns for a long time and have never heard of it. It's factory ammo. Does anybody have any experience with this cartridge and rifles chambered for it? I'm thinking of purchasing the stock as I have a sick affliction for strange ammo.
 
I have 225Win rebareled LH Sportco 44. My favorite 22 centerfire. I think 225Win is much better than 223Rem accuracy and performance wise and less of a barrel burner that 22-250Rem. To bad that it's not more popular it deserves to be so!

Like the 225 also... It came out just before the 22-250, but the 22-250 had no rim... This is what killed it.
 
I also have and use the 225, it will do everything that the 22-250 will do.
Winchester brought out the 225 to somewhat replace the 220 swift and that it could not compete with.
Then Remington released the wildcat that became the 22-250, Remington has done that with a lot cartridges, and that put a strangle hold on the 225.
I like the 225 and have never thought of wanting or needing anything else.

I almost bought a 225 at the Easter gun show that was built on a martini Henry action.... Really should've bought it.

Well, in some instances rimed cartridges have an advantage of positive headspacing, like all shotgun bores, all 22 rimfire, British express african series, 45-70Gov, 30-30, 303 Br, 444 Marlin, 22 Hornet and on and on to name a few. All popular as ever. I just wonder why they are not more represented in Hi/Low wall, Ruger #1, Martinis, single shot rifle receivers, double rifles and others. To have say 416 Rigby in double rifle instead say 470 NE is just silly in my opinion.

I have owned at least one 225 Winchester for the past 20 years, and I really like the little semi-rim a lot.

[Keep in mind that I also own 222 Rems and 220 Swifts]

As has been said, It gives up very little to the 22-250, other than throat wear, which is noticeably less in the 225.

My present 225 is a custom gun....I used a take-off 40X barrel, and had it rechambered and fitted to a nice bolt action.
Even factory ammo is always sub-moa, and my handloads with the 50 or 55 Ballistic Tip and N140 often cluster around ½ moa.

Also working well in my 225 is W748, IMR 4895, IMR 4064 and Norma 202.
Quite versatile, and flat shooting, it is a very fine varmint cartridge.

Thanks Dave. Seems like it might fit my collection nicely. I think I nice ruger number 1 or something of that sort would be nice. I'm thinking a decent wolf gun. I always wanted a 22 centre fire. I need to get myself a "bob" first. I have an insatiable lust for one right now. My safe feels empty without it.
