Hey guys, I would like to mount a red dot on my m305, but I still want to be able to use stripper clips. Any ideas? i would also prefer to still be able to use iron sites .... if possible... don't I just want the world, eh?

You should be able to do that with a scout mount that puts the red dot ahead of the receiver. Check out M14.ca or Brownells (I think the one they sell is called the Ultimak). Springfield also sells a scout mount but I don't know who sells it. With some of those mounts, the sights can co-witness with the red dot, meaning that you're still good to go if the battery dies or you don't want to use the red dot in bright light conditions.

The cheapest mount was the UTG but I understand that it's no longer in production and getting harder to find. And while it allows the use of open sights with the red dot removed, the irons will probably be out of action when the red dot or scope is mounted, as it doesn't have as low of a profile as the others. In any case there should be no problem using stripper clips with any of the mounts mentioned. With our current mag restrictions that's probably more practical than changing mags if there's nothing obstructing the top of the receiver.

If you are use a Bushnell TRS 25 and a Ultimak M8 front rail and you can use the iron sights while looking through the red dot as it will cowitness with the iron sights.
The TRS sits a little lower than the vortex sparc as shown in the pic.

Who sells the Ultimak M8 in Canada? Or can we get it from Brownells? I was checking out the M14.ca railed handguard, looks like a solid mount also.

That's easy. All you need to do is install M14.ca's scout hand guard (SHG).
The SHG is lighter than the UltiMAK, and it runs cooler.
