I'm expecting a my new S&W 686 .357 Mag revolver (7 shot cylinder, 6" barrel) sometime next week. I'm wondering if those out there with the same or similar revolver can recommend a good hip and a good shoulder holster for this firearm? Thanks!

Well, it looks like I will answer my own question. Lobo leather holsters look to me like the best option. Anybody own one of their holster's? Ray, the proprietor seems like a very nice guy to deal with and his holsters look amazing.

A guy at work bought a pretty nice Allessi shoulder holster a couple years ago. Not cheap, but he loves it. I have a cheap Triple K hip holster that came with a used 66-1 that works not bad, I even used it for part of my black badge course. The thumb break was annoying for that though.

Thanks Kristian. I will look at the Alessi as well. I grinned when I saw your post count (686); it seemed like a "sign" that I should pay attention :) .

Any issues with leather and bare stainless guns over the long term? I've heard people say that kydex is better on a finished pistol. I was thinking that the more matte the stainless is, the more likely you would get rubbing (and polishing) on the high points. That's probably not a big issue on a 686 which is fairly shiney to begin with. I'm just curious what people's experiences have been. My preference is definately leather. I don't fuss too much about the finish but the longer I can keep my guns in original condition the better.

Diamond D Custom Leather holsters are beautiful. They are up in Alaska and ship to Canada. Beautiful craftsmanship, but you get what you pay for. Lots of options.

Not to sidetrack or jack your thread but I just ordered a Guides Choice for my S&W 629 with a 4.2" barrel. Nice pieces, but a 10-12 week wait.
