Ruger SR-22 or Ruger 10/22 with Archangel 556 stock?

I want to get a Ruger 10/22 to save money on ammo as having a Non-Restricted with "unlimited" capacity magazines I can plink both at the range and in the bush. I've been eyeing the Ruger SR-22 because of it's customizable "tacticool" stock however the local Vancouver gun shops don't have any in stock and they don't expect an until later in the spring. Another option is to buy a regular Ruger 10/22 and get a Promag Archangel 556 stock.

Is the Archangel 556 stock a viable alternative to getting a SR-22? I've seen some nice SR-22 builds, especially those with shorter barrels. Does the Archangel offer the ability to customize like replacing the grip?

I believe the SR 22 has a shorter and thicker barrel than the 10 22. Also the SR22 has a better chassis ,forend ,etc. I have a 10 22 , so I will use that. I ordered a Nordic kit $280,16 1/2 bull barrel $180, and the Nordic kit does not include stock , so another $80. Around $850+. I through in another $100 for an aluminum barrel. Some people have been finding minor problems with the aftermarket kits . Iron eagle tactics sells the Nordic kit which is the same one Ruger uses, only the Nordic has better anodizing. There were SR22 on the dealer network yesterday for $629 . I'm new so take all this lightly:). Now if I could only remove anodizing from barrel and receiver without ruining it.

Better yet, skip both and a get stock ruger then purchase a troy T22 chassis to put it in, will be better than both. Pick up a used 10/22 for cheap and a t22 chassis can be found for about $300-350 new if you look around the dealers websites.

I read that the Nordic chassis is better than the troy ?

There's a thread in rimfire , about the t22, there saying that the two parts keep separating after 4or5 mags.

Its a pretty easy fix, just some grip tape or locktite to improve the friction between the two halves will most likely keep them from separating. If not, like one guy mentioned putting a sling swivel through the two halves will fix this in a hurry.

The overall design of the T22 is better, three bolts needing to be removed including the receiver take down screw for cleaning is a lot fast than the SR-22 that I own, which requires removing the top optics rail. No unless theyve changed the design of the sr-22 to allow you to wiggle the action out with top rail still attached. Otherwise the stip down procedure, including optic removal is going to get old pretty fast.

With the troy you also don't need to go out and buy rails for the fore end unlike the nordic, why didn't they just put the optics rail at a height that standard ar quad rails would line up on the nordic is beyond me. The nordic chassis just seems to end up costing way more than it should to get a decent set up going for it, by the time you get everything for it including the rails which will add a lot of weight and about $120 to the cost.

However, this is just my experience with both systems. If you believe it in your mind that the Nordic is the better option then by all means buy one.

Not saying it's better because I really don't know, it is more expensive though. I ordered last week at a cost of $280 , it does not include a stock because they can't ship that item to Canada. So add another $80. $360 total. I was told that the anodizing is done differently than the ruger and is much better. Any way it's a done deal :)

Yes it does, I just checked the their website, so they can't send the adjustable stock but the fore end is not and issue to send across the border?

I don't know if something has changed in the design, but I have no trouble taking my SR22 down without going anywhere near removing the top rail.
Personally, I like the look of the Nordic/SR22 chassis better.

I have ordered the chassis , forend , pistol grip , flas hider and extra rails but can't get the stock. Said ITAR won't allow it.
Go figure.

I'm all for the SR-22...while it's a skinned 10/22 like the others, it's factory skinned, so all the proportions are correct. it looks right.

while I've never seen or handled a kitted 10/22, in all the pictures I've seen of the projects, they look just a bit off, like something doesn't look quite right.

YMMV...but I'd start with a platform that's already made to be AR'ish and tweak it from there. take a look at the 10/22 thread and you may see what I mean.

Is the receiver, trigger, etc in the SR22 the same as the components in the 10 22?

Yes, the SR-22 has all the same internal components of a stock 10 22, the only difference is the chassis it comes in.

A couple hundred rounds through my T22 now and no movement/separation at all. We'll see this weekend after about 500 more. Wolverine brought mine in for 329 shipped. it. It's super light and with the tactical solutions barrel I have installed, it's real nice to carry. The flip up sights are quite nice as well. I'll try to get some pics on here once I get the moe stock and aimpoint ml2 in the mail. I ordered a 3 pack of battledyne mags as well, hopefully they feed ok. With the qd aimpoint and an adm recon qd scope mount, I think my 10/22 is at the best it's ever going to be.
