The horrible Norinco AR trigger.

Hi folks.

Bought my first AR a few weeks ago (thanks again, Marstar) and have been getting to know it. The stock I can live with. The sights have been swapped out. But that trigger - that nasty, stirring-a-45-gallon-drum-of-gravel-and-baseballs-with-a-canoe-paddle trigger, has GOT to go.

Been looking at the basic 3 pound Timney, but dang, they're spendy. Still, a nice piece of kit, and they can be moved easily from gun to gun. Timney says they're either small pin or large pin. I'm assuming my Norinco is the small pin - nothing fancy about it - but am I right?

What other, less-spendy triggers can you recommend? Are there Canadian sources for them?

Thanks much,

Dan

The RRA National Match trigger is supposed to be really good from what I've read. It has a 4.5-5# trigger pull and is $119 at Brownell's. The other one that is good is the Geissele SSA-E. But this one is pretty expensive to be putting into a Norinco though. IMO

Brownell's sells JP Enterprises Enhanced Reliability and Reduced Power trigger spring kits that you can try out for $10.99.

Haha, it ain't just Norcs that have heavy as frack triggers. Geissele SSA or SSAE FTW! :)

I've heard mixed reviews with reduced power springs. Some say they work great, some say they get light primer strikes. Guess it depends on the type of primer in the ammo you're shooting.

The reduced reliability Springs I can confirm have a hard time with Norinco ammo and not much better with Winchester white box either.

ArmsEast also has the cheaper Geissele G2S trigger which is supposed to be identical to the SSA minus manufacturer laser markings and only being MP spot checked as opposed to individually MP checked.

I have a very nice Daniel defence m4v5. The gun is flawless ,it is milspec everything. And it has a milspec trigger, the trigger is probably as bad as yours, a milspec trigger is just that a sucky trigger that works. I will have to upgrade mine this summer.

3500 rounds later my factory trigger has settled down quite nicely.
Don't know what the pull weight is but it breaks predictably.

I did not care for stock trigger either. First upgrade was light springs. Went with the 4#. I don't have a scale but by feel of the pants, not much difference. So... went and ordered a CMC for $190 us. Went to range yesterday. OMG i am in love! Again no scale but sold as a 3.5# and feels sweet. smooth, short take up. Shot AE and Norc 55gr with no problem. The Geiselle, if I could find one was $350 in my neck of the woods.

Cheers

...If you want something more affordable I read good things about ALG trigger but don't have any personal experience.

ALG ACT trigger = win win win

For the money, I don't think anything else can compete. If you want to spend a schwack of cash on a Geissele or a Timney, more power to you, but for well under $100, the ALG ACT cannot be beat. One on my Norinco, and one on my buddy's build.

It's still a milspec trigger, but it's waaaay less creepy and waaaay more smooth than any other milspec trigger I've tried. In comparison with the Geissele and Timney uber-triggers, in my opinion I don't think they are worth the additional expense. But it depends on your preference.

I am the buddy! Glad I tried this ALG before buying a Timney. I had tried the Timney and loved it and was set on buying one. I thought I should try this before dropping 200$

I bought the ALG in a LPK for 89$ so works out to be close to a 50$ trigger, and man is it fantastic. Hardly any creep, over travel is well controlled and a really nice positive reset. The reset wasn't as short and harsh like my DD trigger but still noticeable. No grittiness and no extra slop or play.

Do yourself and buy one to try before "stepping up" to another trigger. If you don't like it, I will buy it from you! How is that for a guarantee!

Agree with CMC trigger. Reasonably priced, and friggin awesome. Plus the flat style looks different as well. Everyone that tries mine loves it (even ones with Geisselle). Save money and be able to pronounce the name it's a trifecta of win.

I was going to go for the cheap Geisselle for my norc, since I rather like a 2 stage trigger, but based on advice here I think I will indeed try the ALG ACT first, since the action of the milspec trigger doesn't bother me as much as its cruddyness does.

Thanks CGN!

You sound convinced. Based on your enthusiasm, and the fact it's c$250 less than most other things, I'll give it a try. Thanks for the tip!

That stock Norinco trigger is just awful. Get settled in, start your squeeze. Resistance, resistance, more squeeze, trigger moves imperceptibly from dead stop to the first of several "mini-stages", including one near the end that's quite pronounced. By this time, the squeeze I've been working through is getting pretty muscular. The muzzle is wiggling like Tina Turner's hips back in the day. And then, after the 5th or 6th "stage", the rifle goes off.

Utterly impossible to do any sort of decent work with a tool like that, and I have insufficient experience to get in there with some crocus cloth and fix it properly. A good, crisp, drop-in 5 lb trigger with an absence of grit would be a 5000% improvement over what I've got.

Seriously, it's feckin' horrible.

Thanks again for the tip, mate. I'm both cheap and realistic, and this meets both criteria nicely. :)

Not a problem. You can imagine how happy I was after I was prepared to spend the 250$ and stumbled onto this instead!

How would you compare it to the dd trigger as I have a ddm4v5 and my trigger sucks. Also were did you buy it? Its mark on brownells " no shipping outside the us"
