I had a norc m14 blow up on me, since then I am tentative shooting any norc for the first time. You should've seen me shooting my t97 for the first 3 rounds, one handed arm straight gun as far away from me as possible lol.

If your Type 97 or Chinese made AR blows up, Its because China is mad at you and if you survive the blow up, then you can thank China for being so forgiving. ;)

So from what I get

Tavor has a plated steel cover,
Rfb has two plates of steel,
T97 has None ......

So only Norinco is confident in their products :)

Or doesn't care about loss of human life due to manufacturing defect. Yah that sounds more like the Chinese way.
 
you guys should understand the design before criticizing that T97 doesn't have a shield for your face, behind the chamber there's a thick piece of steel which would divert all gas downwards to the hole between the chamber and the feed ramp, your head will be safe, maybe even safer than RFB and tavor

those of you take a look at your rifles, this has been described in another thread as well

I actually noticed that piece of steel almost immediately while taking the gun apart for the first time. I was going to mention it but then again, I don't really care what the haters think about the gun. There is a picture of a Type 97 broken down on this thread already and you can clearly see the steel in that picture.
 
Well I am no hater, I like my t97, as I do all my firearms, that's why I own them. But still by liking them that does not mean I can't point out there deficiency or design characteristic.

I love all my gun's.... my ddm4v5 milspec trigger sucks, I find there is no ideal way for ME to mount a scope on my sks' s that allows me to use stripper clips, my norc 1911 trigger is to heavy, my rfb mag release is not ideal and practical like a ar. Point is I like all these guns, I did not mean to rain on your parade for that I am sorry.

yes its ok to talk about the real deficiencies of the rifle for example the (workable) but unideal placement of the safety

but the bashing about how it is unsafe and only has a plastic dust cover for protecting your face is just bogus and shouldn't be used to criticize the rifle

Some people don't believe in wearing a seatbelt in a car....I would feel uneasy driving a car with out belts, that don't means I am a hater on older model cars!
 
I enjoy shooting with my T97 - looks even better with the FTU. Any successful business ought to know it needs to deliver on quality & price. Norinco delivered with the T97.
 
Somebody is gonna blow one of these up sooner or later and we will have our answer.... Personally I think you would probably survive a case head failure. But out of battery or blown chamber your face is gone.
This is what happens when a chamber fails...that's what your face is sitting on.

Also this can happen wen there is a default in the barrel. This was a new norc m14 and that is the fourt round you see there stuck in what's left in the chamber.
