Just wondering how often you guy's clean your sizing die's and how you do it ? Just spray it with brakleen or do you strip it and give everything a good scrub ?

I spray mine with brake cleaner, spin some metal polish on a piece of rag, chucked in a drill with a slotted piece of wood dowel. Brake cleaner again. And then light coat of oil.

When I'm done using a die I spray it with penetrating fluid before I put it away. When I go to use it again I just wipe it down before I install it. The penetrant cleans and works as a rust preventative in storage. Brake cleaner works well for cleaning but it doesn't stop rust.

Last time I cleaned my sizing die for 9mm was because I was noticing more resistance (even after oiling the cases). No round count or strict schedule for my cleaning. Just when I notice degraded performance.

Brake clean, and paper towel for me. It was easier to take it all apart and clean the components separately for me.

Per the die instructions: oil after use to protect the die during storage. Clean with gun solvent prior to using the die again.

Is it even necessary if you use Stainless Steel tumbling to clean your brass prior to sizing and a separate Universal decapper ..

I can see occasional alcohol wiping once in a while and a touch of rem oil..but that is it.

If mine look dirty I'll use a .410 bore mop with a shotgun patch and some gun cleaning solvent, dry, and oil. Other than that I don't clean them on any sort of regular basis. Haven't noticed any issues with mine yet.

I can't remember the last time I cleaned mine. I must have done it sometime or other. Now I'm tumbling with ss pins which is like starting with new brass. Much nicer way of cleaning brass. I like the bore mop idea. Cheers

I recently picked up a used set of LEE dies in 577-450 that the previous owner had not cleaned. I don't know what lube he used for sizing or on the boolit's but when I looked inside them I just took them apart and left them in gasoline for a couple day's(late winter storm snowed in the shed). When I got to them they were all nice and clean but I used a GI 556 chamber brush on a drill to make sure.

You don't need to take the die apart. Just clean it with your handgun cleaning rod and the same products. Really isn't a set period to do it. More about how often you load.

For me, I just use a paper towel, fold it over a couple times so that it'll fit up the die, squirt some Hoppes on it, give it a few turns, wipe the outside and pack it away. No special routine for me. Maybe after 1000 odd sizings?

Every single used set of dies I have bought have been filthy. I don't have a clue how the previous owners managed to get them so dirty. Brake cleaner and G96 works for me.
