I've been looking for a project that wouldn't break the bank and decided to build a .22LR FrankenGun as a few folks I shoot with have named it...thought I would share here as I just installed a new barrel tonight ordered from Wanstalls. Barrel is a bright red X-Ring from Tactical Solutions.

The original gun was bought off the EE, a beater Ruger 10/22 that hadn't been cleaned in forever but was jammed into the Arch Angel stock you see in the pics....trigger was awful (I mainly shoot precision rifle as my preferred discipline so call me a trigger snob if you want but something had to be done!) to the rescue comes Jerry from Mystic Precision who shipped me out a Timney replacement unit purpose built for 10/22....dropped right in smooth as butter.

Also dumped a Bushnell TRS-25 red dot on top of the rail just for the poops and giggles factor ;-)

Now as to why would you spend all that money on a .22 plinker.....well I've been working on getting my kids into the shooting sports a bit more and they are into the tacti-cool high speed low drag super ninja scuba commando stuff (Dad's old wood guns don't do it for them....maybe one day) so I embraced that while building a fun range toy in the process....pics below enjoy or have a laugh no skin off my a... ;-)

How do you like the mag release on the timney with a pistol grip? I was thinking of getting a similar release, but wasn't sure if there would be enough room to be comfortable. I hope your kids enjoy!

The mag release is really great in my view, less fiddling around than the stock setup from Ruger. The big lever action/motion of the Timney release makes things very fluid and easy to drop a mag out. Only downside with this chassis system that it is in, is that the bolt hold open latch is not accessible but that isn't a huge deal for me and the intended use here.

Good stuff! If it gets your kids/family into shooting, its worth every penny. I was initially skeptical of the 22 mares leg my son wanted, but wound up really enjoying it. I also used to whine about the "kinda useless JR carbine" my wife is in love with, until a gun store owner glared at me and informed me that if that was my biggest problem, then I was miles ahead!! I thought for a minute and agreed with him!! To each their own--should be the firearms and 4x4s motto!!
