Glock Question can't decide on model

I'm looking at buying a Glock and can't decide on which to get it's just racking my brain or what left of it. :confused: :bangHead: model 17 Gen4, Glock 17C compensated Gen3 or Glock 22 RTF2 .40 cal

Now I can only buy 1 Glock... This is my rule not the wife.

I like the fact 9mm ammo is cheap and I would most likely go to the range more if I could afford more ammo.
Gen 4 models comes with 3 mags and have adjustable back straps which is a bonus.
the price difference between the 3 are $61+ or minus depending on the model being the 17C is about $35 more then the base Glock 17 and $61 more then the model 22-RTF2
Glock 22-RTF2 being a .40 cal can be converted to a 9mm with a mag & barrel swap which is ok and better then buying a second gun.

Con's

Cost of .40 cal ammo is at least $6.50+ a box more then 9mm.
Glock 17C only has 2 mags with it. I need 4
recoil issues, nerve damage to right arm / which used to be my strong arm. I have been shooting .22LR for this reason.. but want to compete again some day soon. maybe IPDA or some other sport??

So I need some help sorting this out RTF2 is a cheaper gun but ammo is higher & recoil which is not my friend these days.
G17C less mags & less recoil, more mod options but Gen3
G17 Gen4 and 3 mags & adj. back straps

If you are going to compete, then don't get the G17C - it isn't permitted in either IDPA or IPSC.

Get the Gen 4 G17 - it's cheaper to shoot than the G22 and the price difference in guns will disappear after the first thousand rounds you put downrange.
 
Get a 22 with the 40-9 option so you can start at 9, and if strengthen go up to 40 if you want to score major, but can still plink and practice for cheaper. The savings on the rtf 22 would help cut down the cost of the extra barrel, and the magazines for the 22 hold and shoot 9 okay as is, even better if you adjust the feed lips just a touch, and after the mod the mags still feed 40 great.

I here you on the ammo end of this as I was thinking the same thing. But I don't under stand why a G17C is not allowed in both IPSC or IPDA yes it's compensated so wouldn't be allowed in open class IPSC or IPDA it's still a factory class gun?

As for IPDA some thing in the rules just don't make cense.. if we had carry laws like the US I wouldn't be carrying a stock class gun. it would be modified gun & a 1911 done up right or a G17C
but Rules are Rules.. and you don't have to like them just fallow them.

Don' want to go to far off track. IPDA has me question some of there rules... A co-worker shoots IPDA and I want to join him so day in a shoot.

You are correct - you can shoot the g17C in IPSC in Open Division. Compensated guns aren't allowed in any IDPA Division.

I was thinking about the LoneWolf 40-9 option but heard that it will void the warranty of the Glock. don't care about the warranty after it expires so if that's the case I wouldn't do it until warranty is over

It would be a long time before I would win an open match but it's about having fun right. yes it's hard to stay upbeat when your not winning matches but in my case "every dog has his day".

what else is there besides PPC?
 
I would say get a 22 but the rtf is really rough. I have to cover mine with a houge grip sleeve. You could go that route and save some cash with the hogue. But the 17 is also a great option.
 
I haven't shot a center fire pistol since my injury, just 22cal stuff so I have no idea where this will go. My wife & son joined the gun club this year, So worst case they can have fun with it.

My goal is to use this myself, So guys other then shooting open class with a G17C I'm still not closer to deciding what to buy. I do like the slide on the 22-RTF2 it's different which I like,
But G17 Gen4 for over all cheap shooting cost and IPDA / PPC / IPSC production class if I decide to join. But I'm not going to have fast times anyways.

I was having problems flipping an egg on the frying pan an hour ago.
 
Ok guys a bit of a switch here after talking to the wife last night She doesn't see me shooting matches for a while yet, lets say competition put aside for now and we are just using the gun to target shoot & have fun.
which of the 3 would be the best choice as price is very close between the 3 guns. need to decide today so I can order & I still don't know which way to go all 3 models have something in looks or option that I like.

G22 RTF2 .40
G17 Gen4
G17C Gen3
 
Do you see you shooting matches soon?! Or does she not think you are ready for the stress of friendly competition?! No, worries, just buy what will be fun and feels good then! My vote would be a Gen4 G17. If you dont like it, easy enough to sell for a small loss.
 
I would pick the G17 gen 4 all things being equal and have one.. not to derail but a CZ Shadow is easier to shoot for me and does not require as strong a grip to shoot as the Glock to shoot accurately.
 
She thinks I'm not ready plus I have lots on my plate i.e. too busy. I think the Gen3-17C would be fun plus options to mod it which I'm all about the extras..
But couldn't us it for IPDA or PPC if I do get the chance to compete. forcing me to Buy something else later.

don't mind the Gen4-17 but mod options are very low. as for the Gen4-22 the slide serrations are different which is nice change from the other Glock models.
but cost of the .40 & recoil for me & and the wife might not be a good choice right now.

I owned a shadow before love the looks of the gun but didn't fit my hand that well.
 
Kevin thanks stopping by and chiming in :cool: :wink: I appreciate all your feedback both from Industry Experts, competition shooters and the rest of the CGN members.

I have owned a lot of different guns over the last 20+ years and I'm at the point where I need to just get a few very good guns & have family fun with them.
The wife said I can get 1 more handgun, So it's going to be a Glock and I was racking my brains or what's left of it :p trying to get the right model so I can be happy it's not easy on a budget.
