A Sad State of Affairs

You could just take it to a real gun smith.... The only thing is it might cost more to fix then it's worth to replace some firearms are that way as well so it depends on what you want.

I know 1 gunsmith has the abilty to make new springs if he can't order them it just takes time to make something so it costs money because his time is worth money... It all depends on what you want.

Air guns are allot like real firearms in many ways. They work in similar ways the big difference is they have a seal in them and sometimes valves that can wear out or break.

I like the break action pellet guns because they're super simple and if you want to pump them up to a higher speed just compress the spring with some washers and now it's a firearm speed or buy one that is faster for a couple 100 bucks.. You can even add desil fuel to the pellets on spring guns and they fire faster and hit harder it's just dangerous to do that so..
I have seen more airguns screwed up by firearms gunsmiths than you could believe.
Fact is, they (the guns) do not work in similar ways - and that is the reason that most firearms gunsmiths will not, or prefer not, to work on airguns.
The powerplant of the average airgun is quite different from the "powerplant" of a cartridge firng firearm.
No seals, specialty lubricants, timing, and other factors involved with firing a cartridge. On the flip side, cartridge firing firearms have their own intricasies that require special skills.

Think of it in these terms - if you require the services of a urologist, making an appointment with a gynecologist would probably not be in your best interest......LOL.

so out the dude who is wrecking air guns.
That is not my responsibility - it is the responsibility of the gun's owners to "out" the unscrupulous, or incompetent 'smiths.
When a gunowner enlists my services to repair an airgun, and he tells me that a particular party buggered up his gun, I encourage that person to post his experience on an appropriate forum as a "heads up" for others.
Sadly, practically all of them choose to eat the repetitive repair costs, and remain silent.
For me to publicly "out" any repair person as being a hack, on the basis of nothing more than someone whom I may or may not know telling me so, is IMO, highly unethical.

These are the the forums I read in this order, Yellow airgun forum(it has the most user friendly search), Gateway to airguns forum, Airgun one, Airgun home, Canadian airgun forum,
UKchinese airgun forum and Canadianairguns .com

I would like to bump this post so that's is back at the top of the forum. I have had the similar insident happen to me but with a trap gun!! Even though I was force into silence by a law suit intimidation. I have always forwarned people unoffically. Even though we have a right of free speech. I just don't have the time to fight a defoliation of character law suit if the objector decides that he has more money than brains. The time lost from work would be worth more than the damage on the gun. So I keep a low key on it. But every time I get a change I voise my option about that business, I do so in a way it woundn't get tracked to me.

Well I have learned Airsmithing is a real art and I admit I have performed a few free simple tunes on friend's airguns and messed up as well, I was able to fix 2 one I sent away on my dime.

When it comes to Len he is a true master airsmith and has forgotten more than I will ever hope to learn.

If Len makes a statement about tuners it is true, if he makes a statement about a Forum concern it is true. He has nothing to gain here not stating the truth, so get references do your research as the number of internet experts/hacks increase by the day.

Thanks for the kind words, Randy.
Despite having repaired several hundred airguns over the past 40 or so years, I still find myself managing to learn something new about airguns almost daily.
So, based on my own extensive experience, anyone claiming to "know it all" is either a liar or a fool.

I am a lifelong shooter. I own two lathes and have built some good performing bench guns. After 50 years of shooting cartridge guns, I have finally graduated to air guns.

Airgunsmithing is a completely different animal from firearm gunsmithing. It is like comparing cross country skiing to downhill skiing.

I had a breakbarrel air gun given to me that didn't work anymore. The spring looked just like Leonardj's pictures he posted of the spring broken in four places. I gave it a basic lube tune and put a spring in from dlairguns that detuned it to about 800 fps. with lead. Now it shoots like a dream. Thanks Leonardj. I learned more from your posts than anything else I found on the net.

Always nice to know that there are folks out there that find my posts both informative and helpful.

I moved to Canada some years back and brought my modest collection of air rifles with me. As time moves on I note the increasing likelihood of repairs and servicing being required. I am dreading the day, as I know few have the knowledge of how a Daystate / Theoben / Falcon / FX / Air Arms / Venom tuned HW35 / 80 / Webley Tracker (gas strut) are put together, let alone work on them.

Any suggestions on who really is a safe pair of hands?

Candocad.
