***AR-15 Barrel Length Help***

Hey guys...

I'm pretty much BNIB when it comes to AR-15's. I have a question regarding barrel length, and I'm pretty sure that it has already been discussed, but here it goes anyway. When it comes to barrel length, does the overall length include the muzzle device, or is it taken without the muzzle? I've read that if the muzzle device is permanently affixed to the barrel, then it's included in the overall length. So if I were to purchase, let's say, a Daniel Defense 14.5" barrel, without any type of flash hider on it, that would be the actual length of the barrel, correct?

Guys, sorry if I already answered my own question...just wanting to hear from the more experienced gunners out there.

What is it you are trying to accomplish?

In Canada bbl length does not include the FH. In the US bbl length can include the FH if it is pinned or otherwise permanently affixed. Bbl length in the US makes a difference due to their SBR laws. Bbl length in Canada is moot because all ARs are restricted and bbl length plays not part in that equation.
 
I will try to answer you, if I understand all your question.

I buy recently a DD barrel 11.5'', went I receve it, the barrel come with barrel nut extension ( where the spline for the bolt goes). in over all length he's 12''. In that spec ou have about 11/16'' of tread for the flash hider. Went I put my 11.5'' DD barrel in my upper, the length of the barrel is 11 7/16'' from the start of picatinny rail ( of the upper) to the end of the flash hider tread ( crowning of the barrel). When up put a comp or a flash hider you lost about a 1/2'' of it because the barrel goes in and is't not calculate in the spec of the comp or flash hider.

EX: my 11.5'' with a 3'', over all length will be near 13 7/8'' by the upper picatinny rail.
