Yes. A lot of new guns come packed in a heavier duty protectant grease so i want to clean it off. Also if it is new I always at least want to inspected the barrel. If I buy used, i want to break it down to make sure everything else is ok too.

Break it down the clean off packaging grease and crud, lubricate it thoroughly as it's unlikely it's been lubed the whole time it's been sitting at the shop, and most importantly inspect it while it's taken apart. You don't have to be an expert and understand what every tiny part does (though you may want to learn that in time). Just make sure everything looks ok, nothing appears cracked or broken, and there's no super-obvious scraping or wear points developing already. If there are, something may be out of spec.

Then go shoot it and dirty it up as much as possible.

I definitely clean the bore and chamber, usually more.

My new Ruger Mk.III Competition also had some really sharp corners/edges at the rear of the receiver and bolt area.

Uncomfortable as hell, smoothed those a bit.

I'm too excited. Just check the barel for obstructions, and blast away.

That's understandable, but a little cleaning time can cure a cuss fest at the range. It could change a great day at the range to a let down. If you go with your new toy, especially if it is a semi auto, you could easily get frustrated with FTf, FTE, stovepipes, etc. that could simply be caused by packing grease.
