What kind of aluminum is used in the Norinco CQ-A/DA 556?

I'd tell you but.......

wait for it.....

it's an ancient Chinese secret!

Seriously though unless you have access to a metallurgical lab chances are you will not know the exact specs of the material. All the adds I see mention barrel specs but nothing on the receiver / lower specs with regards to the material used. Your best bet may be to contact Canada Ammo: they might have more details on the item as they are a major importer of Norinco products. Their relationship with the Chinese manufacturers may provide insight.

I already have one from that $599 sale. I started buying parts to slowly build another AR over time. When I got to the upper/lower, I got into the whole 6061 vs 7075 thing. That just told me wondering what material I had in my DA556, not really concerned about durability for it. I'm sure it's fine, and especially at $599 I'm not complaining. It'd just be nice to know though.

Knew I'd see that one if I scrolled down enough ;)

It's a cheap AR - does it really matter?

I mean, they even make lowers out of plastic these days...

It would be beneficial to the consumer to know what they are buying in order to compare apples to apples. Irunguns have rotating sales on decent USA made 7075 rifles for $750....I'd rather know what I was buying then not know.....especially since Chinese aluminium has been pretty poor quality in the past.

I get your point, but I was mostly being facetious.

I think anyone buying a Chinese gun should already know in their mind that they are buying the rock bottom product, specced to fit a price point.

some of the stuff coming out of the US was fairly suspect as well, some of the very cheap lowers had major cracking issues and my favorite the bolt with no firing pin hole.
