Does anybody have any experience with the Red Star Mosin Nagant scope mount?

That would require tapping and drilling the receiver right?

I think that's more than most people want to do to their mosins.

Personally I like the jmec mount, it's what I plan to get when I get a mosin, then just need to deal with getting a bent bolt...

Yes, it would require tapping and drilling, but just like a PU setup it could be covered up again by an unaltered stock if a person ever wanted to bring it back to the military look. I am looking to set one up for hunting, but I don't want to use a long eye relief scope. The Jmec is an interesting system, but I am not a big fan of the huge cantilever.

The way I see it is that for about the same price as buying something newer I end up with a good hunting rifle that I can shoot cheap surplus through. I can't stand paying $1.50 every time I pull the trigger.

The advantage to the cantilever is you can put it backwards over the bolt, where you need to turn your bolt or replace it, and use a regular full size scope, OR you can put it the other way, keep your stock bolt, and use reddot or LER scope. They also have a plate so you can mount your scope offset, so you can use a fullsize scope with the original straight bolt handle.

Other options include PE/PU mount setup for $110 at Westrifle, http://westrifle.com/wrstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15&products_id=344

Or For only $60, from Marstar, a mount and bolt handle modification available.
