What's a decent 1911 in 9mm ?

Looking for a first pistol. I like the 1911 style but I want to go with 9mm. Are there any recommended options out there?
 
Depends on how much you want to spend.....entry level I'd go with SAM from Wolverine supplies. For higher priced, STI at Freedom Ventures
 
I used to think all 1911's would be the same, until I rented a few at a range in Seattle, and then went to a few gun stores and handled a few more. It's all about how good they feel, and how much you wanna spend.

You won't go wrong with a STI Spartan. I love mine, good trigger and accurate. Also I have only had the odd FTF/FTE after several thousand rounds. TC
 
I held a Sig 1911 Traditional Match Elite in 9mm at The Gun Dealer recently. How much are you looking to spend?
 
STI Trojan is the best value in a 9mm 1911.

The USPSA is very nice, but probably not worth the price difference. I have both (bought the Trojan because my USPSA was getting repaired and needed a backup) and if I could go back in time, I would buy only the Trojan.

Also, get the Tripp Research Cobra magazines.
 
I would agree that the STI Trojan is a decently priced reliable 9mm 1911.

There is also the STI Spartan.
It is built by Armscor in the Philippines.
It is similar to the Rock Island Armory except that the Spartan uses an STI trigger, hammer, and sear.
QC and warranty are also by STI.

You can usually pick up the RIA for a couple of hundred cheaper than the Spartan.

Do a search you will find a lot of info on one of the dedicated 1911 forums.

You are confusing the Trojan with the Spartan. They are not the same gun. The Trojan has a US built cast frame (the USPSA and Sentry are forged).

Here's a quote from the FAQ section of STI's website:

Q: Are STI pistols made in America?
A: The Spartans are built for STI (to STI specifications and utilizing STI internals) in the Philippines by the STI division of Armscorp. All of the rest of our pistols are built right here in Georgetown, TX.

Browning Hi Power? Basically everything John Browning wanted to put in the 1911, but couldn't. Changes such as 9mm, the magazine disconnect and double stack magazine, for starters.

That's correct but the Spartan is awsome for the money and very close in accuracy to the Trojan..
