Do Flash Hiders Affect Accuracy?

I find the flash unpleasant in the scope of my SL8. I have found for 152 euro, pinned on Flash Hiders for the SL8. I would rather just have the barrel turned and threaded 1/2 x 28 but that is permanent and don't want to risk accuracy. So in your experience does a Flash Hider have a negative affect on accuracy?

You watched my 12 inch AR do sub moa with a flash hider. I've shot that rifle with 4 different muzzle devices and haven't noticed any real change in accuracy.

Let me know if you want me to ask my buddy in Calgary to find out if he can borrow the HK barrel nut wrench from CSC and have him contour and thread your barrel.
 
It's the torque (i.e. too much) applied to the end of your barrel that will affect accuracy as well as POI.

Some muzzle devices seem to increase accuracy potential, like silencers, but that's a slight increase and won't make a ####ty barrel suddenly shoot sub MOA.
 
Well your question isn't so much about a flash hider affecting accuracy as it is "will threading the end of my barrel affect accuracy". I put that question out to CGN'ers about a year ago and got back many responses. Most stated yes it would as the internal tolerances of any barrel will be forever changed by the modification to the exterior of the barrel. Many stated that even mild external pressure placed on the exterior of a barrel can greatly affect accuracy (a reason for floating hand guards etc.). Now just how much threading your barrel will affect accuracy is not easily known, but with a rifle as accurate as a SL8 you are smart to consider it.
I would think a very experienced Gunsmith (preferably one with vast experience in doing just this work to just your model) would be the one to answer this for you, as they should know from completing this modification numerous times what is to be expected in accuracy from threading a barrel.
Perhaps there are some CGN'ers that have done exactly this to an SL8 before and know the change if any to accuracy from before to after.
 
My answer to the OP is that once you see the flash, there nothing you can do to the bullet flight. Depending of the use of the rifle you can try another aiming solution that wont impaired your eyes.
 
I had one put on a Ruger Mini 14… Which shot 2-1/2" groups consistently and it cut it down to 1-3/4…
I was blown away… So I put one on my Colt AR 6601 HBAR and it didn't change a thing… Nothing. No better no worse...
I guess it depends on the rifle… the barrel... Etc. etc. etc.

That's because a pencil barrel mini-14 ranch has a lot of barrel whip and adding some weight to the muzzle helps to calm it down.
The one I had years ago was the same way.
 
Yes it can, maybe, and I will splain why. A flash suppressor or any other device you attach to your rifle barrel can change the harmonics of the barrel. When you fire your weapon, vibrations travel from the chamber to the muzzle and back again over and over at about 18,000fps. U want the bullet to exit the muzzle when the (node) is at the chamber and the muzzle is quiet. A flash suppressor can change your node. See Dan Newberys OCW method for a more complete explanation.

Hey cr5... The two that I have are the '580' thicker barrel versions... but I see what you mean and agree. They have (huge) improved accuracy with flash hiders installed.
