.358 220 GR. Speer Hotcor FN??

stubblejumper,...that's the answer I was hoping NOT to get, lol. I have got my eyes burnt out from searching the web for the 220's. I did find a box of the 250 rn but they are a 3 hour drive from me and they are over $60 a box,.....but I think I might see if the guy will mail them to me.

I have a box (50) of Speer 250 gr spitzers I can't use. I could sell them to you id interested. Let me know what you feel is reasonable pm me if you are interested.

I searched from coast to coast, found plenty of Hornady 200 and 250gr bullets, but Speer were few and far between. I am actually shooting the 180gr Speer bullets in my 356win. There is no doubt, that I missed some dealers, but I contacted pretty much every dealer that I could find.

No problem. I used to have a 35 whelan, but now shoot a 356 win so spitzers are of no use for me now. Good luck in your search. I wouldn't mind trying the 220 fp too but can't find any locally either. I have had good luck the the Hornady 200 FTX and the 200gr round nose.

You could use em to good effect - a 250gr Speer HC with it's generous exposed lead tip can be easily cut back to DUPLICATE the exact nose shape on their 220FNs. You get a bullet at 245grs or so. I have used them like that in my 356Win for decades and they work big medicine on bears IME.

I've done the same with a number of other bullets... file 6-10 grains off the nose to make a flat tip... I do the initial lead removal with a fine stone wheel on the grinder and the final shaping with a file... I weigh every one to plus minus 1/10th grain.

Two years ago I "harvested" large 4 point mule deer with my Ballard rifled Marlin rifle in 35Rem at 125yds or so. 220gr Speer bullet hit him square in the chest, travelled lenghtwise just under the spine and broke the hip on it's way out! that's what I call penetration....That deer just colapsed without any further movement. Still have 4 boxes (of 50ea) or so of those bullets left that will last me for a while. To bad they are not available any more b/c I wouldn't mind to replenish my modest stock.

I haven't contacted Speer about this but a local dealer informed me that Speer has discontinued the 220 gr 35 cal bullet. If you find any it will be old stock. Apparantly the 180 gr FP is still being offered.

I have solved this problem by using the 225 Accubond and I clip the plastic nose off at the jacket. They are deadly on bears and still shoot just under 1" @ 100 mtrs for 3 shots. I clip them with scissor type cable cutters and the tip only weighs 1.5 grns and clips off fairly clean. Some that are a little crooked or ugly I just clean up with a sharp pocket knife. Have killed lots of blackies with this load and wouldn't hesitate for a second on a big grizzly.

Right on rokoro,......I heard or read some where that they might be discontinued. If I do find them some where I will be buying every one they have,..or I can afford. I have read some good reviews about these bullets,...I have never killed any animals with them myself but I do have a part box of them and they are very accurate out of my BLR with 47 gr of IMR 3031.

That is interesting, I assume you are shooting a lever gun? Also assume taking the tip off is enough to not worry about primer strike? Can I see one?

C-fbmi It's good to hear that. I have a bunch of them accubonds and I've often thought about snipping those tips off not for tube or mag length issues but to just initiate faster expansion @ 358 win speeds.

Also I believe that Hornady has cancelled production of the #3525 250 RN so they may be getting pretty tuff to find now too.
