Best scope for around $1000

Looking for suggestion on what the best quality scope would be in the 1000-1500 range. Looking for very nice glass, something with finger adjustable turrets, and something with with max magnification around 16 or 20. Maybe even 25x. Illuminated reticle would be cool but not needed. Solid tracking turrets and crisp clear image is my main concern. I've spent a lot of time looking through cheap scopes and I'm done with it. Forgot to add I'm looking for ffp

In that price range, Sightron will give you satisfaction, i still keep a couples of them, they are very good glass and are very precise... JP.

I'm partial to anything Vortex. Great glass and the best no haggle fully transferable warranty in the business period.
 
I read that sightron turrets can slip because the caps are only held on with friction. Is that true? I've never held one before. Oh and I forgot to add I want ffp
 
Bushnell, Sightron, and Vortex all make 6-24x50 scopes that retail for just north of a grand. The each have there own strengths and many loyal fans. Any of them will serve you well, just do your homework and figure out which strength you want.

If you want to move one more step up, the Bushnell 3.5-21 will use up your budget before taxes, but it's getting rave reviews.

I was just looking for a scope in this price range, but wanted more FOV than x6 could provide (for hunting). I just managed to find a Weaver 3-15x50 EDMR. Mounting it up tonight.
 
I have a Bushnell elite 6500 4.5-30 and a Sightron SIII 10-50.

No question the SIII is a much better scope.

Not that the Bushnell is a bad scope, it's just that the SIII is that much better. I'll most likely be selling it soon once I buy another SIII.

See if you can try to look thru different scopes at the range and judge for yourself.
 
I'm by no means an expert on optics, but I can say I like my Vortex Viper PST SFP MRAD 4-16 X 50mm. After tax and shipping it was just over a grand with rings. Would buy it again, although I would consider getting the 6-24 instead.
 
My vote to the Sightron sIII 6-24 which comes in first and second focal plane, with LRMOA reticle. Good glass, nice turrets, good reticle and right in your price range. No issues with turrets slipping - there is a set screw to tighten them once you've zeroed it.
 
I have a Bushnell Elite 6500 4-16 Mil-Dot. I bought it for $899.99 a few years ago. I love it. Selling the rifle it's on but keeping the scope for my hunting rifle. It's huge with a sun shade but I don't care. Apparently that glass in them is by Schmidt & Bender. I was toying with the idea of buying a Zeiss optic also. Kudos for looking for some quality glass.

haha u don't think it's really Schmidt and bender do you? I have a bushnell tactical elite 2.d-16, it's great tracks really well, but at 16x it's not nearly as clear as a higher end scope
 
Vortex 4-16 FFP would be my vote. Pretty good stuff. I did have an issue with mine, but they took care of it in a very timely fashion. From what I hear, it's not overly common to have the issues I had (zero bounced after the second round in my 338 LM) they sent a brand new one and has a hassle free experience. I highly recommend Wolverine in Virden MB to help you. 999.99 was what I paid. Decent guys, excellent service and competitive pricing.
 
My advice, look used and save a few hundred bucks. That could be the difference between getting a Mark 4 3.5-10x (new about $1400 when last I looked) and a NXS 5.5-22x (new about $1800 used maybe $1400).

I have both scopes and if I had to choose between the two for the same money it would be a no brainer even if the NXS was used (so long as some jackass hadn't spraypainted it after he watched Shooter or Lone Survivor for the hundredth time or just abused).
