After what feels like forever I finally got my PAL in the mail on friday, so today I spent some money at Epps:

The M44 is is '44 production izzy all numbers matching, pretty good condition. Stock is in good shape, no repairs. Is it normal to not see an arsenal refurb marking on one of these?

SKS is a '54 tula only non matching part is the mag assembly. Stock is banged up, thinking about a timbersmith replacement down the road.

Thanks for looking, cant wait to add more to the collection!

Well done !!

Looks like you caught the soviet milsurp bug... just like me !!

I got my PAL last December and I now own a '34 91/30 and a '43 SVT-40. Both are a "hoot to shoot" !!!

Good call for your first guns. I just recently started up as well, and have a couple 91/30s and a SKS myself. I would recommend you get yourself a fun Rimfire to shoot. As much as I like shooting my red rifles at the range, its nice to be able to plow through cheap .22 ammo. I got a 597 Remington in a archangel stock and red dot sight, and must admit it gets far more use than my others.

Agreed, those are some nice rifles and the SVT40 and the Mosin Nagant 91/30 are excellent rifles! That would be one heck of a foursome ;)

Ever thought about the VZ58?

I like the VZ58, and don't have one yet. I'm not sure if I want another restricted that can only be used at the range. If I win the lottery its a whole different story.

Nice start. The Timbersmith stock is amazing, however I am glad that I have another SKS that I didn't bubba up. The one with the Timbersmith stock I cut off the bayonet attachment point on the barrel just for looks and I am glad I did. But if I had only one I would keep it as it is. Over time you appreciate the Milsurps more for what they are and now I am embarrassed doing what I did (but it looks awesome!). Kelley's sporting goods had some stocks the last I checked. Call to be certain.

Good choices on your first 2 rifles mate,my first was an SKS also,I own 3 now and still want more!
My wee collection so far of just Red rifles(I have other rifles too) are:
2 Russian SKS
1 Chinese military SKS
1 Mosin Nagant
1 M44
1 SVT 40

The SVT 40 is a damn nice rifle, great to look at,great to shoot, and the price is good(for now),I'm also picking up a Russian captured K98 next weekend, even though I told the missus I would calm down a bit,but hey I bought another gun cabinet and it needs some filling lol.

Good job bud. My first gun was Red as well along with the majority of my firearms. Just got my newest Red firearm in the mail this morning and my first restricted, a 1943 TT-33. Gotta love the Reds.

Opened up the SkS last night, everything has sand in it! Guess they had it on the floor at the arsenal. I'll post some pics tonight.

Where were they bought..

Didn't this happen to another member very recently?

Csa makes non-restricted versions of the vz58.

The non-restricted CSA VZ58 was an easy choice for myself, it's pricey but worth it. I love the look of the restricted short barreled versions, but they cannot currently be brought into the bush...

Very nice!

Ellwood epps. Bolt moved freely when I cycled it, should have popped it open while I was there. To be honest for $190 I'm not surprised. Thinking I should give everything (except the stock) a soak in mineral spirits - good idea or bad idea? Just want to make sure all the Cosmo is out of the nooks and crannies
