Most of the way to a Kaboom, underwater BRS-99. Gun did great, barrel however…

I'll be hunting Kudu again in six months, as it seems you likely have. There will be a video of that too you might want to skip. ;)

We, (that's my family and I) own land in a couple of Sub-Saharan countries, and we do tend too shoot a lot - kudus's included.

We don't have a great love of videos or smoke ......... Biltong and braai vleis is more our thing

You see dear chap - we have no need to rush over there pretending - since we are the real deal!

I'm very happy for you. Pleasure to meet the "real thing". :)

We too, still have family in the old continent, and I go annually. Much of my wife's side were more adventurously placed and called central Africa home as well, before it became untenable. I'll be in RSA, and then Zim this fall/winter, it seems likely in areas you may be familiar with. But perhaps you're Namib. 'Waar kom jij vandaan?' I'd say we should meet but it seems apparent neither of us would be likely to enjoy the experience. ;)

Tuskless Ele, seems like Zim or Namibia. I'm after Ele in a year and a half as well, working on my Five. That's your Ele? You're one of the few.

Cheers Kudu, and can't say it was a pleasure to digitally meet you yet. I suspect we cross paths in more ways that you would figure given our province of residence and where we travel frequently, and the connections there. Do you PH, by chance?

May the #### measuring contests continue gentleman, it's what keeps forums lively. Back to underwater guns, shall we?

The elephant, I find disturbing...

Contrary to popular misconception Ele is not and never has been critically endangered. They are also enormously destructive, and in the fragmented habitat of Africa today are quite rightfully controlled. Even the pure hunting side, aside from control hunting, helps the species as it puts an interest on them that brings liquid funds to Africa that photo tourism or government never could. It makes them valuable outside poaching, and therefore habitat and efforts are devoted to ensuring a long term, sustainable hunting industry. It is one of the "greenest" businesses in the world, and Ele has been natural prey to humans for millennia- nothing wrong with it. It is a curiously arranged photo however.

Update on the barrel, measured it against my spare (now primary) barrel and it measures perfectly for the first 10", then where the obstruction occurred it has swollen of course. With it's issue 7" barrel I have no doubt it wouldn't be phased. Underwater barrel is on the left, you're looking at the chamber sections bottom on the pic, roughly 5" mark where the collar is.

Those skeeters make my skin crawl....

Also, I now know I only want a Rest length barrel on a BRS-99. That looks way too goofy like the Vector does as a NR firearm.

Abman, that makes me uncomfortable! Just treat life like it may not be there tomorrow. Known a few guys of what I presume is our age that's happened to in my lines of work, and it puts things in perspective. Money can be gained, time can not- Burn money, spend time wisely. But now we're getting philosophical.

So if you want to wreck a barrel, do it, you only live once. ;) Next I plan to see what happens when you intentionally blow up a Norc M14, and what that will take to do it.

A silly long barrel you can actually use and carry about the free and wild places of this country trumps a cosmetically prettier barrel you have to register, case, and get paperwork to even be allowed to take it to a range. Just my small change, I'll go for the goofy tube, I never could have done this on a range. :)

You could have at the range I go to! Small private club with less than 30 members with lots and lots of toys to play with!

Sounds like a good club! However I also carry this in the bush for defence at times as it's so light and handy- and I'm rarely within a hundred clicks of a range. Not requiring registration is huge as I value that, as is the ability to plink at will. Different factors for everyone.

I totally get that. There are certain firearms that I will only consider if they are NR so I can shoot critters with it and then there are others that I have no issue being stuck on a range nailing IDPA targets and falling plates and such all day.
