10/22 M1 conversion

I am in the process of building a M1 carbine look alike using a new 10/22 and I have a few questions.
I bought a second hand hardwood stock for the 10/22 and have trimmed it and cut the sling opening to resemble the m1 and have started to carve out a top handgaurd. Now for the questions:
Does anyone know if I can use an original early type m1 front barrel band and trim the stock to fit or is the ruger stock front end already too small?
Does anyone know where I can the sights in canada?

That's no fun!

I made one a few years ago, and yes an M1 barrel band works, as well as butt plate, rear sight, etc. My upper handguard is pretty cheesy, never got around to putting a wood piece on. I'm a "I'll finish it after I test it" type of guy, but I rarely get beyond making it functional. The details kill me.
