HELP MY WIFE broke my tavor!!!

Hi Guys

i know this is my first post but I've been a huge fan of cgn and following it for a long time. I don't know where else to go but here. So i took out my brand new tavor to the range today and when i get home my wife shows interest (for the first time in guns) to want to help out. I give her instructions on how to clean the tavor and i had to step out to run a quick errand.

Long story short she accidentally uses a 3" otis cleaning patch for a 5.56(instead of the 2" patch )in the barrel and literally lodged the otis flexible rod and cleaning patch in the barrel. I've tried everything to get it out but it wont. The thing is stuck in there. I dont know what to do. i've tried pouring oil down the barrel to try and loosen the patch but it won't. It will not budge no matter what direction i push/pull in.

Your help will be appreciated.

I did the same thing the first day I had mine. I was able to reach in from the breach end and rip a few shreds of the patch back out. Eventually pieces stopped coming out but it was still stuck. I ended up just securing the tavor in place and really reefing on it to pull the patch all the way through the barrel. No damage was done (except to the Otis pull cord. It was mangled after. )and my tavor is still going strong a couple thousand rounds later.

Clearly the only solution is a divorce.

Suuuure the "wife".

This requires pictures

I'll give you $500 for it. ;)

Leave it plugged and tell her you've tried everything but will have to replace the rifle, then after you have the new rifle clear the old one. Maybe buy something different to "replace" it since you know you will be able to get this one cleared eventually.
May as well buy a couple cases of ammo while she's feeling bad as well.
Act very sad for a while and have her perform some "favors" for you while she feels guilty.
She won't feel bad for long so make the most of it.

Do we need a poll on many of us have wives that clean our rifles?
:p

all of this.

Wood dowel and a hammer?

No no no. That can make things much much worse. Only time you pound somthing out is if it is solid. Like a bullet. A patch will wedge itself in even worse if pounded on. It needs to be pulled out. Likely best to pull the barrel and get a pair of long serated needle nose pliars to grab the patch.

So the OP posts his one and only post on CGN then goes AWOL?

Likely embarrassed due to getting his rod stuck and blaming his wife. Nobody, gives a rifle to their wife to clean and then leaves, especially when they have never cleaned a rifle before. First off I don't know too many Canadian girls who would be glad to do so, secondly its just not a responsible thing to do, thirdly no reasonable gun owner is going to trust someone who knows nothing about a $3K rifle with cleaning it.

It just doesn't make any sense whatsoever, none.

He got the rod stuck and blamed his wife. I'd be gone too.

if I left a plastic gun for my wife to clean my fear would be it would end up on the top shelf of the dishwasher :runaway:

It all does seem a little strange, you would think a least a thank you for the posts that offered valid solutions to his problem would be in order. Perhaps the wife excuse wasn't such a good idea, but man up ibrat82 and keep being an active member by posting up what actually cleared your rifle barrel so others may learn what actually works. (and if you haven't cleared it by now I suggest taking it to a reputable gunsmith for assistance)
