it depends on the gun and the use... my glock after a day of idpa, will get cleaned that evening. Otherwise, it gets cleaned after 500 or so rounds if i use FMJ/TMJ bullets with regular trips to the range. On the other hand, my para 1911 will get cleaned and/or lubed whenever it is taken out of the safe.

I like threads like this, helps to weed out who to buy from when their EE ads claim "cleaned after each range trip"
Always assume they are not. Most lnib guns I bought here are very dirty once they are detailed stripped.
