Is there a way to check CSA vz58 .223 gas issues without sending back to Movie Arms?

I called Movie Arms about the vz58 gas issue causing excessive recoil, internal component damage and violent cartridge ejection.

They told me to test my rifle (2013 production) and I should be able to tell right away if there is an issue. Well, I'd never fired a .223 before so I couldnt really tell when I went to the range this weekend. Had someone spotting the brass and it was ejecting 4-5 feet in the air occasionally, but with nothing to compare it to I have no idea if its normal.

There must be a way to check components o the rifle for the gas port issue without sending back to MAG and without having to test fire a potentially defective product.

If not, I guess I will just keep shooting it until there is a part failure..

Awhile back, I sent my new VZ 58 .223 to Movie Arms to be checked out because I measured the head space and it was out of spec.

The gun had never been fired, it was new. Movie Arms looked at it, and it turned out that the head space and the gas valve were both out of spec.

They corrected the problem, shipped it back no charge, and sent me a brand new mag for my trouble.

The guys at Movie Arms were polite, very helpful, and took the time to answer all of my questions on the phone.

The rifle was produced in May of 2013.

I just got my vz 58 in .223 back from movie arms, the piston was to large
Causing my brass to eject about 20' or so every time, which caused my bolt assembly
To shear off on the right side where the striker enters.
My headspace was fine according to their warranty repair reciept. But they changed my piston
To .470. I haven't had a chance to shoot it tho.
Overall they were really good to deal with I live on Vancouver island and I had my rifle back in 3 weeks
And they even sent a free mag

Sounds like you know how to check for the flaw.

I'd appreciate directions on how to do the check myself if you don't mind.

Over many years I have acquired a few head space gauges to check my rifles. When I get a new firearm from a dealer, I sometimes ask them to check the head space before shipping.
Just Google head space gauges and how to use them. There are many good articles out there. And do a search on CGN.

If you have warranty on the rifle, send it in. I think I had mine back in two weeks.

How do you know if your rifle was produced in 2013 or 2014 or whenever? Thanks in advance.

There should be two numbers under the rear site on the right side of the receiver. Mine is 13. (2013)

WTF? I didn't get a free mag.

Sorry to hear that Mumbles. Somebody screwed up!
