Order in for my S&W 627 Performance Centre.....

I have two (his and hers) 627-5 PCx8 that we shoot in ICORE. Both came from factory with DA action well over 13lbs. just crazy. Get a set of after market springs pronto and your life will be easy, now our DA is just over 7lbs. FYI you can now shoot these in IPSC Production division!

Is this true?

For the model 57, i am gonne pass since components are really scarce, almost obsolete, but on the other hand, from one of our dealear, i may get a brand new Classic serie S&W 586 4 inch in the next month or so... Guess, it is a very good new... JP.

I was in Bullseye sports and handled the model 57 before buying my 629 4.2". The .41 mag has better penetration than the .44 mag when we are talking bear defence. Two boxes of ammo are included in the sale (which he imported himself from the US, just to seal the deal on these guns when selling) but this was not enough. I could not find any other ammo available for it in all of Canada, as well as components in large quantity. Total bummer. It has got to be the most underrated handgun calibre that I have ever come across, according to my research. And it is one hell of a beautiful classic gun to hold in hand. After I get into reloading (shortly) I will look for components and perhaps buy one. I'll pursue all avenues with this one before I step into a 460V or .500 magnum. Both fun but impractical with those overkill rounds, but with the .41 magnum it seems to have all the right stuff. I want to give Bullseye my business. They are the best in customer relations, especially face-to-face transactions. I am rooting for the success of the underdog! We need more competition here in London.

Exactly. Underrated by everyone except those that have used it or know its potential.

I've had great experience with Bullseye as well.

Been on the trail of a 57 for years.....yeah, 41 is a far better caliber than 44, but dirty harry used a 44.....sigh. Little known fact, in the first movie Harry actually was using a M27, because the demand for the 29 was so high they couldn't secure one for the set, and visually they where identical.

Holy chit Bulls Eye has a hefty price tag on that new Model 57.

Yeah, it's a great ctg but I agree currently components, ammo etc are hard to source up here now.

I've owned a Model 57 for many years. Thankfully, I stocked up on brass & bullets for it way back in the day when cross border shopping wasn't the issue it is now.

I prefer the smooth combat trigger & Pachmayrs for shooting this old gal, especially double action, which is smooth as glass.

I don't think Bullseyes price is too bad. Most of the classic 29s seem to be going for between 1150 and 1350, the higher priced models with wood cases.

Got my Model 29 at the lower price (1161.00) with the nice velvet and wood case, great deal for a great revolver... JP.

I suppose that's not out of line by current standards.

Just for some nostalgia, especially for you 'older guys', I just checked a vintage 1974 Guns & Ammo annual I have, listing the S&W Models 29 & 57 for the princely sum of $203.50 respectively with various barrel lengths & finishes etc.

'Course back in the summer of '74 I was turning 16 and my focus was on my "new to me" '64 VW Beetle purchased for $500. The gas tank of which cost $3 to fill. And my summer job that year at a local tourist attraction paid $2.05 per hour.

Nice vw.

I grew up thumbing through my Dad's Gun Digests. He has a full collection going back to the 1960's. In the early 70's, the 44 Automag was listed new for just over $200 as well. Crazy

You should be ashamed of yourselves for ending a post like that! I'm looking at these currently for my first revolver, how did everything turn out? Did the gun live up to the hype? Major thread revival but their has to be closure!!

Yup I definately need one now. Does the performance centre mean its custom fitted? Where as a pro series means its off a production line with some hand refinements?

Does it take moon clips?

Mine was quite smooth (although not as smooth as my Murray Charlton tuned 586) and very accurate; it takes moonclips. Make sure you like N frames thou; I found mine way too large, even with aftermarket stocks, so off it went.

And cleaning 8 chambers is a chore...

The S&W PC627 was the responsible for getting me hooked into revolvers.
Trigger is so smooth both in DA or SA making it very easy to shoot accurately. Love the brass dot front sight. Only downside is with 8 rounds you burn thru ammo quicker….:)
