At the gun show in Naniamo today, I picked up a couple of boxes of Woodleigh 35 cal 310gr RN bullets. I'm planning on using them in a pair of 358 NM's I have and was wondering if anyone out there with a 358NM that has any load info with a bullet this weight and if they'd like to share. Powders available and that I'm 'planning' on using are IMR 4064, IMR 4320 and/or IMR 4350.

I used 4350 in my 358NM, but not with those bullets. Not going to be many folks with that info.
Yes, I know what you mean but I thought before I try and re-invent the wheel, I'd ask on the off chance someone had been down that road. The best I've got so far is a load of 51gr of IMR 4320 with that bullet, used in the 35 Whelan on Bear. A quick comparisson of loads with a 250gr bullet using IMR 4064 show a rough difference of a 10gr difference between the two. That may give me an indication of a start point.

Johnn I have a couple 358 Norma rifles. One is a factory Husqvarna and the other is a custom made rifle built on a P-14 action. The max loads in these two rifles using 250 gr bullets differs by 4 grains. I would suggest anyone working up loads start very carefully from below. With the heavy bullets 280, 300 and 310 gr I would suggest IMR 4350 would be the best powder. I would suggest you start with 65 or 66 grs of IMR 4350 and work up carefully watching for signs of excessive pressure. If your rifles have shorter throats your max load will likely be around 70 grs. Rifles with more free-bore may accept 2 or 3 grs more. Hope that helps

I appreciate the input,;)especially the powder suggestion as IMR 4350 is one of the powders I use most frequently in a number of calibres.
While searching for a Schultz & Larsen in 358NM I picked up a very nice model 1651 Husqvarna to tide me over until I found a Schultz.

I did finally luck into a long sot after:D model 68DL Schultz & Larsen.

I had planned on putting up the Husqvarna up for adoption after acquiring the Schultz but haven't done so yet. :redface:It's too pretty:D.

Thanks again for your input.:). Much appreciated.

Johnn,

4350, W730/H414, RL17 (that's the one I use) are all pretty good at that.

Thanks guy. I'll keep those choices in mind as well. The 310 Woodleigh bullets I picked up at the gun show are a decent looking bullet so I thought it would give me something to play with in my 358NMs. I've sent Woodleigh a request with hopes for possible 358NM load info using their 310gr bullet but haven't heard back yet.

I'd contact Woodleigh. No .358 Norma data on their site, but they'll likely have it.

There are three loads here too. Add the W's.

I thank you sir.;)I already had checked out the Woodleigh site and have it in my favorites. The reloadersnest contact is a considerable help as a friend recently gave me a can of Norma 204 that he had no use for. He thought I could probably put it to some use as it's a powder I used to use in my 308NM.:DThanks again. MUCH appreciated. Thank you one and all for your input and help:).
