7.62 x 51 or 7.62 x 54R

You are right, the SSG only comes in 308. I'm just curious, because the magazine of SSG3000 is quite long, does it mean it can use 7.62 x 54R too? I don't know. Isn't it the difference between 7.62 x 51 and 7.62 x 54R is only the length of the casing, but same diameter??

The magazine might accept it, but the gun won't
Please refer back to, or retake your firearms course and REALLY pay attention when doing the practical where you verify the caliber of ammo you have with the caliber labeled on the gun.

7.62 x 51 and 7.62 x 54R are two very different cartridges. The latter is a rimmed case and use .311" bullets for starters.
Suggest you read some more about firearms in general before you think about spending 5 grand or more on a rifle. Your SSG3000 only comes in .308 Win anyway.

If I knew the difference for the surplus ammo, I wouldn't post it here then. That's why I'm trying to get an educated answer.

Fair enough, if you plan to reload pick up some reloading manuals and they explain the process and differences in calibers.

Do you have your pal yet?
