Russian sks with bayonet - legalities/usage

I just baught a russian sks from the gun show in fort mcmurray, ab this weekend. I have seen lots of videos with people removing the bayonet.

Is it legal to go plinking/target shooting in the bush with a bayonet attached?

Can you use the rifle for hunting if it has the bayonet still attached?

Can you hunt with a semi-auto? Ive heard some people say no.

Where can one buy soft nosed bullets / hollow points for hunting 7.62x39mm?

You should read the hunting regulations for the province you hunt in, it will answer all of your questions. (i.e. if it doesn't say no bayonet's allowed you are good to go).

I remove the bayonet just to make the gun lighter and handier. One screw does the trick. But no reason why you can't leave it on.

There is Russian Hollow point ammo around. I would not trust it for hunting. It might not expand. Soft point is what you want to buy.

You don't need very much, because you can practice and zero with milsurp ammo of the same bullet weight.

Much of the ammunition for the 7.62x39 is "corrosive." This generally means that there is a salt or ingredient in the primers that puts a film on the inside of the bore and the gas system when fired with this ammo. Make sure you flush and clean the rifle bore and gas system after using it, or you will find lots of rust inside the next time.

For hunting, use MFS soft point x39. They are available at both CT and Cabelas. This ammo is non corrosive as well.

+ 1, this is what I use for deer hunting, much fun to hunt with the SKS, and yes it is legal to hunt with semi-auto...even here in Quebec ...

And I will use my M44 for next moose hunting.
