If you're going to end up taking your shooting seriously don't compromise for either of you. If she's at all on the fence then a gun which only "sort of" fits her will likely end up not being that much fun for her to shoot. If the reduced size Browning 1911-22 fits her like a glove then suck it up and buy it for her. If you can't afford two guns right out of the gate then buy the Browning to keep her interested and just live with it until you can afford the gun you want. In the end the added cost will mean little as the years of shooting pass by.
If her hands are that small that they fit the "shrunken" Browning 1911 then she would likely also enjoy the Ruger Bearcat revolver for something different in rimfire shooting for later on.
I've got both the Mk III and 22/45. I find that the raked back grip angle of the Mk III works very nicely for the classic one handed stance with the body turned at roughly 45 degrees from being square to the shot. But it's not so natural an angle for a two handed square on isosceles triangle stance with the two handed high up and thumbs pointed forward style stance. For that the more vertical 1911'ish style angle rules for a reason.
Oh, if you shop around a little you might come across the 22/45 Lite version. Low weight for her with a 1911 grip for you.
