First .22 hand gun for me and the wife to share suggestions

Yep gdawg - you can buy the XS new, but keep your eyes peeled for SH. Mine was looking forlorn in the consignment section between Desert Eagles and Glocks. I just had to rescue it. First trip it jammed every round, so I stripped it and gave it a thorough clean. Runs like a top now. Quite the gem!

Filled out all the forms etc and then the wife says wait???? For what she wont say.... Gun show the end of next month possibly? Women, men will never understand them.
For the price they have them listed for its hard to pass up!
Craig0ry what would you want for yours?

Tell her that the gun market isn't like a shoe store that gets fresh stock in weekly. Nor do they have regular sales on a monthly basis like other higher volume commodities. Guns arrive in little batches and then they are gone until the next batch is imported months later. If you miss out on this purchase the next batch will also include the hit on the Canadian buck and cost a lot more. Now is the best time if you're looking at $600 I'd say.

Very good advice!!!
I hope to get out today and do some more hands on with the Browning 1911-22 & see if i can dig up a ruger 22/45 light for her to play with.

Please stay away from the browning 1911-22...it's a novelty gun. Yes it's kinda neat, and yes, it weighs nothing. But the sights are rudimentary at best and the trigger is sure nothing to write home about. And once she shoots a bit,she will realize it's not a really good gun for anything other then casual plinking or introducing really new young shooters to handguns. I don't have big hands, but this pistol gets lost in them.

Now the 22/45 lite, she will shoot all her life, and it will still keep her interested. I find they don't have enough weight, but i'm probably bigger then her, and the one's i've shot all shot very well indeed.

Ditto on what BC rider said about the Bearcat, or the SP101 in 22 for that matter, though in the second case, you will want to do a trigger job. I want to like them, but every single one i've handled new had an atrocious double action, and a rough heavy single action....hard to believe after Ruger has the GP 100 so good these days!

For your money, the entry Buckmark at 350 is a stellar choice, but if it's too heavy it's not going to help ya.

Good luck.

Last minute thought, one of the retailers is bringing in rebarreled berreta's (71, 74? some one chime in) They are an excellent choice for small hands...and have real sights and a good trigger

My only concern over those Beretta guns is getting parts down the road. Buying something a little rare or less common is fine for those with a core of regular guns already that they know they can keep running. Otherwise it's a bit of a gamble that nothing will go wrong. So I'd second your suggestion for the Ruger Lite over the Beretta 72 or 74 or whatever it is.

But the question is if it fits her hands or not. They are rare but I've seen a couple of girls that still had trouble with a full size 1911 grip. And that's a gun which normally fits folks that take small gloves just fine.

If her hands are so small that the Browning is "The One" another option if the trigger is poor is to tune it up. There's a great article in the "Technical Articles" on the Brownell's website about massaging the three finger spring in the gun to lighten the trigger and tune up the other functions. And because it's only slight forming this way and that there's really nothing that isn't correctable.

And if it needs more than that since it's a scale model of the 1911 it would respond to the same polishing tricks used on a regular 1911. Yes, this step WILL cost because aside from the spring it's the sort of thing that needs skill, knowledge and stoning jigs that only a gunsmith would have. But if she will use the gun for years to come then I'd call that a fair bargain.

One more thing about 1911's. Since they are all the same it's easy to let her hold ANY 1911 in a store and see if it fits her hands. If it turns out that she can get a good fit then the Ruger Lite or the light GSG become valid options.

I love my Buck Mark Contour URX, 5-1/2". And it is a favourite of my girlfriend. Very easy to shoot, easy to reload, super precise if you shoot it properly.
Besides bad ammo, I never had a problem with it. The adjustable sights are a big + for me.
Only downside, it is a bit difficult to clean since you must remove the full length base.

My wife shoots weak handed. She finds my GSG too heavy? My Buckmark hunter is way too much for her. It's interesting that she finds my Webley IV acceptable and she hates revolvers with a passion?

She likes and shoots our M93 for the most part. We have 3, so I can always cobble one together for her if one fails.

Out of the 12 pistols I own, 4 being 22lr, The browning 1911-22 still has not ceased being my favorite gun out of the entire lot.

I can believe that. Was at the range the other day with a guy that had a S&W 460 and a 1911-22. I commented on the disparity betweem the two.
He liked it and shot it rather well.

I was at the range last week and rented a Beretta Neos .22. It was somewhat space gun like in appearance and I thought it may not shoot well. I was wrong wrong wrong. Really accurate and easy to sight target. Only one FTL and 2 FTF in 150 rounds. The FTF had good strike marks so I put it down to the ammo.
2 things though.
1. You can't grip the front of the trigger guard with your index. The shape will not allow it.
2. There seemed to be a little blow back at times so good eye ware is as always a must.

No major problems. The gun was fun to shoot and accurate.
