Hey guys , just wondering where to get holsters for reproduction revolvers , our gun range won't accept a holster that does not cover trigger and have some sort or retaining device on it ex: thumb break.

I figure I'm going to have a hard time finding a holster for my black powder revolvers.

So, hammer down on an empty, cap-less cylindered single action is unsafe somehow?

Wow, what we have come to...

Would a leather hammer thong count as retention?

Yes I know , from what I understood was ... " if we let you use a holster with a uncovered trigger guard we have to let everyone else use one"

I bet everyone else would like to use one. Maybe get in touch with the executive for your club and see if you can get the rule changed.

Boy, are the IPSC and IDPA guys going to be surprised that all those Bladetech holsters are unsafe death traps. Did they have a rash of guns jumping out of holsters or something?

Fuddery is what we have come to. Nanny state, busybody fuddery.

And we couldn't have that, could we?:sok2

Who cares what kind of holster other people use as long as they are safely handling and shooting their guns?

I agree 100% , if I'm standing at a firing line or walking on the range to verify targets why do I need retention and a hidden trigger when my pistol is unloaded. I will never carry a black powder pistol loaded unless on an empty chamber. Second of all I will never run , crouch or shoot prone with a black powder pistol. I don't plan on doing anything commando with my tactical 1862 and 1851 navy black powder special ops revolvers

Hard to run, crouch or shoot prone with a pistol and sabre hanging off your belt.
A lot of clubs don't allow holsters at all unless you have the IPSC/IDPA black badge. Anyway, finding holsters for BP revolvers with the trigger covered isn't difficult. Mostly depends on how much you want to spend.
Dixie Gun Works sells hordes of flap holsters. Don't think they export, but you'll get some ideas.

You ever think of making it? Tandy's has books with a flap holster.

Clearly you don't understand the fundamental four firearms rules, specifically number one "ALL FIREARMS ARE ALWAYS LOADED." A quality holster covers the trigger and trigger guard. As for a positive retention device, that's optional and entirely dependent on whether or not the passive resistance of the holster in question is enough to keep the firearm from leaving the holster without deliberate force. As for your decision to not do anything besides walk with your holstered firearm, that does not mean the rules should differ or be altered. A single set of rules keeps it simple for all.

This very good advise TDC.

I am not sure why there are always those that know everything and that all rules are stupid because they don't like them. I guess that is just the way some people are. Has anyone else ever noticed that the ones that are like this always have massive amouts of posts?

Makes me think they have nothing else to do but talk about things they really don't know anything about.

Become part of the solution instead of being part of the problem. By this I mean there are three things you can do.

1. Abide by the rules and stop complaining about them
2. Join a different club that doesn't have rules you don't like.
3. Become part of the executive of the club and get the rules changed if they are foolish rules.

It is just that simple the rules are there to protect you from being injured. Remember people the rules have been made because something happened somewhere, sometime and this club is just trying to stop it happening at there club.

A flap style holster should be easy enough to find for your C&B guns. Such things were standard cavalry issue back in the day and I'm guessing that they are still made.

The other way to go is to attend a meeting and put forth a motion to amend that rule to make an exception for single action revolvers only. That would allow for cowboy action shooters to practice within the club grounds with their proper rigs.

You don't need to be a member of the exec for this. It's perfectly fine for members to make motions. Once the motion is on the floor the exec must allow for discussion and a vote.
