Who makes an inexpensive, good quality, 12G side-by-side?

I think your only option would be a Stoeger or a Baikal.
Stoegers are usually short barreled 'coach' guns, but they make 'em with 26" or 28" barrels too. Model is called an Uplander Supreme.
I think North Sylva is the or a distributor.
Baikals are here. Relatively close to you. Look for a Model IZH-43

Through all my research I have come to the realization that cheap, does not come with good quality. A good quality sxs is more likely to be north of $1000. Maybe you can find a good deal used, you never know

I picked up an O/U Brno Zh...something or other (305? 303?) last year, for under $400 bucks from Tradex last year, and thing is a beauty. Tight as trap.

OP, what do you mean by inexpensive (what is your price range)? To some, $1500.00 is inexpensive when it comes to side X sides. If you are looking at under $700.00, I would be looking for a used one. Something like mosinmaster just found is great value in the used sxs world. If you are thinking old english guns, it's pretty hard to find a decent one for under $700.00 but they do come up. You just gotta watch and be careful because there is also a lot of junk out there.

I picked up one from tradex an old Spanish double, sure it is not an English or Parker but for the money it was great, I promptly cut it down to 18.75' barrels but really it was good value
Picked up one of these for my wife to get started with...but the model with only a single trigger. She likes it just fine and I don't mind it at all. It is certainly not a $2,000 gun but then again, it only cost $400. Biggest concern, regardless of price, is fit. If it doesn't fit the person shooting it, you are doing them (or yourself) a dis-service. Good luck with your search!

The OP said he is looking for a SxS. There is a big difference between an over/under and a SxS. I have had many over/unders and now have only one. On the other hand I have many SxS's. I never found an over/under that handles like a nice pointing SxS or fit me as well. But this is my personal experience. For others it might be exactly the opposite and that is why it would be really nice if a person could try a gun first. But that's pretty hard to do when buying on line.

I wasn't directing my comment specifically at you. I was just pointing out that although both over/unders and SxS's are considered double barels, there is quite a difference between the two.
