Could some body list the difference between key mode and last year model? What is the difference in weight between the heavy barrel and the light barrel? Do the new key mode come with quad rails? What are the advantage of heavy barrel .. If it's accuracy only , then how much more accurate is the heavy barrel? Thanks

The key mod version is lighter because it allows you to put rails only were you need it.
Normaly heavier barrels allow for better sustained fire accuracy but in this case it seems to not help much. The barrel retaining system isnt ideal for big heavy barrels so the light profile will probably be just good, maybe even better.

Gotcha .... There's a last yr model for sale in a local store $2300 + txs . Other than the rails is there any other major changes?

Like the other poster said the barrel is thinner and the weight savings is awesome. I would only buy keymod now having both. I'm not just trying to sell mine to you either! When I had the railed model I never carried it because of weight and bulk.

Weight difference between previous generation with heavy barrel and new keymod with light barrel is huge. If I was in the market, I'd be looking for a keymod with light barrel. With that said, I believe the light barrel itself is where most of the weight difference in noticed, moreso than the keymod receiver.

New bolt carrier decreases trigger slap and no longer needs a buffer pad.

They new bolt still have a buffer pad. It is just located in a different location.

The barrel is a lot heavier than the rails/handguard itself so I believe most of the weight is from the barrel.

The bolt is redesigned, the firing pin, the trigger group and the fixed all the quirks like bolts falling out lol. I compared my keymod to my buddies which is about 2 years old. He loves the changes and even with mine having the heavy barrel the weight is noticable.

So the keymode appears to be better , not only because of weight differences but it also has a lot of upgrades. And as Caleb stated , the lighter barrel is just as accurate ? Zeuce, how much does your gun weigh, stock, with heavy barrel ?

Both heavy and light barrel will have the same accuracy if both barrels are cold/cool.

Heavy barrel will be more accurate nkce the barrel gets hot after firing a hundred round.

not sure ive bolted a lot of crap on it LOL a cgn member weighed his light barrel keymod out of the box and it was 7.2 lbs. someone on the xcr forums told me the heavy bbl is about 6 oz more. guess ill hafta strip it and weigh it but all I have is a bathroom scale LOL

I have about 1200 rnds through it now and no problems but I'm looking for a little better accuracy. I can get about 1to 2 inch patterns at 100 yrds. Using AE black box , with a fixed 5 x scope. How's the xcr? Also I really like the look of the xcr-l with the quad rails and the magpul CTR stock.:)
