It's that time of year again: Destroy all gophers!

I don't know any areas with those... I wish I knew places where I was allowed to go out and hunt them. Trenton area kind of sucks for hunting land.

We've been doing a lot of shooting off sticks to get ready for our trip to Namibia in July. Shot about 20 more on Saturday from 60-200 yards. Here's a couple of the hits

Ahhh, ok. Thanks! I was wondering if gopher is a delicacy of sorts, and them being a nuisance critter was an extra bonus. Sounded weird to me, but eating squirrels also sounds weird.

Yesterday when I came back to the pasture from lunch, the crows were feasting on the deads left from the morning. I've watched foxes taking fresh kills back to their dens, making several trips to where the action was.

Ive been to lazy to post up mine that Ive got lately. Had lotsa fun last sunday shootin!

Took out the 17hmr and 223 out with me.

Some of the carnage...

This is all I could find this guy. It was a medium sized gopher

The 17 was like a lazer on sunday. It was almost fun as the 223. Had a few kills like this

and for the highlite of the day for me

A farmer asked me to take care of a few raccoons they have around their farm. I saw one when I was out shooting coyotes when there was snow on the ground.

I remember someone on here saying that they called one out awhile back, so me always having my ecaller with me I decided to take a chance doing some calling. As we were walking up I could see a coon head stickin out of the hole in the tree. Set up the caller and it didnt take long to call this girl out of the tree. It was kind of fun to watch the raccoon stick its head out and look around for a bit to see what all the racket was.

Home sweet home

Haven't seen any foxes out here, but I have caught sight of a weasel dragging a kill into a den. It was amusing as hell watching this tiny weasel trying to drag a gopher momma twice it's size back to its hole.

I still haven't gotten out this year... man, I am hating it. Maybe this weekend... I have my brand new .22 Air rifle dialed in, and it is -quiet-. I expect good times to be had with it, but for fast action, I still have the Marlin waiting in the wings,

Went out this past saturday and took down a good 70 of the lil guys.

I really like it when you can hang out in one spot for 45 minutes and wait for them to pop back out.

Had to shoot a couple of them with the 223, just because. :)

Had some time on the weekend to shoot a few more. Im finding that they aint coming out as much anymore and that the season is looking to be wrapping up.

High 70's seems to be my average lately. Weather permitting, Wed will see some pasture time. Sitting and waiting for a bit pays off big time, gopher call helps get them standing.

i've never tried, but always wanted to have a go at a pile of gophers. now this is just a thought, but could you get to the mounds, and place some of the fancy new tannerite explosives on a stick above the holes and let em have it when there is 10-15 in a group with one shot? or is this stepping over the line?

Awesome day today. New contact with a super nice pasture, cows keep the grass short. Gophers were easy to see, get their attention with the call and pop them. Best day in a long time, 247 gophers down for the count. Lovin' the Ultra Lux.
