NP30 or NP29

How much grip size difference is there between the two?
Are double stack mags still hard find.
Finally would a Hogue over moulded grip fit the np30?

Size depends on the grip plates used.
I used very thin aluminum grip plates on my NP-30. this makes the thickness very close to a stock 1911 grip thickness.
The only mags that will work, AFAIK, are the Norc ones.
I can't begin to imagine how I'd get my hand around that combination.

Thanks. So for my smaller hands i would need the slim grips like you have to have any chance of holding the np30 comfortably.

ditto for me. I have meat hooks for hands, and I find the NP30 just too thick and unweildy for .45acp recoil. I never owned one, but my buddy has one, and he has trouble holding it tight enough to shoot it well. I have an np29 and even that is as thick as I find comfortable to shoot, including using super thin grip panels.

The NP29 mag situation can be overcome. I have 3 mags for mine that are not Norinco. One is a Sig Mag
and the other 2 are Ruger mags. They required a bit of work on the mag catch cut out to make
them fit but they work fine.
Also, I have not tried one but the Bersa Thunder 9mm mags are supposed to work in an NP29.

Correct. My answer was my mistake. I was thinking NP28 as High Cap was mentioned. My bad.

The Norc double stack 1911 is very fat in the hand. I have fairly large hands and it is a bit too fat for me.

I filed down the grip screw studs and installed thin grip panels. Now it is is OK.

Unless you have large hands, don't get one.

FWIW.

The NP-29 will accept any 1911 magazine....
It will function with any 9mm or .38 Super 1911 magazine.

Talking about interchangeable mags, Wilson Combat 45ACP mags work better in the SAM Omega 6 40S&W, than the original ones.
And GSG1911-22 mags work better with the Kimber 1911 conversion kit, than the stock ones, at least with one on a Norinco frame.

Are NP30's or 30N's even available anywhere? Oh, think I just found one. Pretty good price, at $345.

I've got big hands. But for me even the double stack 1911's with just grip tape on them and no actual grips feel like 2x4's. Especially when compared to the perfect fit of a single stack with the correctly arched grip scales fitted.

Our hands feel the most comfortable and supportive when holding an egg like oval shape. And it's tough to create that sort of feel when you're starting out with a lumpy rectangular shape that barely has any rounding on the edges.

I'm not a large hand guy and prefer single stack 1911's. I've got a couple NP29's. I like them a lot. For extra mags I bought STI 9mm mags and they work fine.
