I have my eye on the ncstar muzzle break golf ball launcher for the AR platform. It looks like amazing fun but I am not sure where to find 223 blanks. I am new to reloading and wonder if blank 223 rounds are something I can press at home for the golf ball launcher. Any thoughts?

You can't make blanks on a reloading press. They're seriously crimped and the crimp replaces the bullet for OAL. At least, not that will feed. Maybe doable with a cardboard wad that gets crimped in place.
I saw some 5.56 blanks somewhere, just the other day. One of the site sponsors, I think. Not exactly common stuff, but they show up at gun shows.

you can ch4d makes dies and a AmmoMaster 2 or a ch4d rock crusher press could be used

proper blank cases are not reloadable due to their thin walls...i dont know if you can buy the actual brass to load..... rcbs and ch4d make universal blank crimp dies.... im sure if you hand load the rounds into the chamber, crimping the neck of a 233 could work...after all these are blanks in a semi auto, so single shots are to be expected

im interested in doing this too, as just this weekend i was telling a friend all about golf ball launchers (as my buddy brought a 7 iron and a bucket of balls to skeet)

Give me the dies and brass and I will crimp just fine on my cheap Lee c press, it's just thin brass getting crimped..

I assume the answer would be no; but could someone just take the bullet out of a regular cartridge and seal the end with wax? That would probably gum up the gas system no?

What kind of blanks are they suppose to use ?
There are 5.56 military blanks & 5.56 Hollywood movie blanks
I have both & you don't want to fire Hollywood blanks through a M16 BFA
No I don't want to sell them . Just saying there is a big difference

I would think military blanks, Hollywood blanks would be to hard for the average person to find. I have the NcStar launcher on order, maybe it will come with instructions.

I still want to figure out a way to load my own blanks.

since your going to hand feed and or mag feed 1 round at a time i would start with normal 223 brass. i would also try find a set of dies to crimp the end or make a die that will crimp the end of the brass. look into annealing the brass to make crimping easier. i would mess around with fast burning pistol powders like tightgroup etc, use cream of wheat to use of the extra space.

there should be no safety issues because your not using a projectile, but as always do so at your own risk, etc, etc.

Gun shows are a great idea but the next one to come around these parts will be next April.

I like the idea of just using a normal case with some quick burning powder and use cream of wheat to take up the extra space in the case (thanks Spawn-inc). Is there a way to do this method that doesn’t involve crimping the shell to seal it off? Maybe like lard or wax. Just something to keep it from rolling out between the bench and the range. Any thoughts?

I would not use cream of wheat in a bottle neck case when under pressure it acts as a solid anything below the neck can case pressure to skyrocket. use poly fill and a wax plug(make sure it dose not go below the neck

Golf ball launcher just looks like fun. I've always wanted to shoot dummy rifle grenades but can't find any. Golf ball launcher is cheap ($35) and available at a number of websites. So golf ball launcher it is, put a mark 200-300 yards down range and see who can lob a golf ball closest to it. Basically just a way to play around with indirect fire.

Makes sense.

I wonder how a case of trailboss would do and another case of lightly crushed up trailboss would do. I might try it in my 500 mag.
