2014 BC Precision Rifle Championship June 13-15, 2014

Stage 4, 500M Shoot/ No Shoot Agony Snaps. Years ago it was not so much fun when all the targets came up in the same good guy/bad guy pattern. You just fired when your neighbour fired. For your shooting pleasure I have completed this year scripts for each target puller so the 50 exposures will be different for each target bay and each relay Laugh2.

Here are a couple of good guys(me and my nephew) sitting on top of the bad guys. We painted vests on a bunch of bad guys a few years ago.

Reminder walk back (sight in) on Friday has been bumped to 16:00 by the military as Ed said above. We will be there all day Friday getting things ready.
See you at Vokes Range Friday or Saturday morning.
Look for the pillars and chain link fencing on the right at km 22.

Go through the gates. (The car in the picture is coming out). If the sentry is in the booth check in. The turn off for the Bivy (campsite) is immediately to the right. You can come back later to set up camp.
Head straight about 200m to the concrete block building and park there where other cars will be. Registration and washrooms are in the block building.

Hello all, I am out of the hospital and back at home. A stroke has been ruled out. It is some kind of viral inner ear thing coupled with my high blood pressure that caused my hospital stay.

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes and thoughts. Wish I could be there this weekend, but I still am a bit wobbly on my feet.

Hello unibomber. We are ok on Friday. Since we got bumped out of our slot by the military, there will be a few of us prepping targets at the range to give us a jump on Saturday. At 1600 we will run the walk backs as per Eds post #138 .
Sounds like you have your zeros since you are skipping the sight in. Or is this a bluff to throw off the other shooters:ninja:? Next thing you will be talking about having to use your back up rifle....not having shot much....having to use factory ammo...V:I: :bsFlag: then finnish in the top 3..:owned:.
I look forward to seeing you at the match.

been so busy missed the answer to my post, still hoping to come visit but may have to do it on Sunday. Good luck to everyone, please remember that friendly slagging is pretty much a requirement, don't give Ed too much grief and make sure to thank him, PMJ (who still has to shoot one of these years) and all the other volunteers and sponsors (of course the sponsors!!!!!). Without any of them this match would not be able to go forward. Being a match director is an unforgiving job and people seem to think matches just come together. It takes a ton of hardwork and more time than most would ever expect, so please, please let Ed know you appreciate his hard work.

Also - one request for next year - is it possible to have per-registration forms for the following years match on-hand at the end of the current years match, so that we are able to sign up right away? That way, generating interest early, to show the BCRA there are people wanting to shoot? I would happily fill out a reg form at the end of the match and hand over my fees in order to help guarantee a successful match the following year.

Just a thought.

Some target video from the event (most of this is not my shooting). Might be of interest for those who weren't there but are curious about shooting the event next year or the one in October on Vancouver Island.

Great event, thank you to the organizers for making it happen and to all of the competitors who came out! I'm really pleased with how I placed and with the events. We learned a heck of a lot of what to prepare for and what to practice on for next year!

This was my first match and I had a blast, my shooting partner and I both had never attended a match before and had no idea what to expect. Despite a rocky start on the walk back for my team (some mis information and a bit of a rush to get setup) we got the hang of things.

A couple suggestions to the organizers (I had to think about it which is why I didn't comment when you asked Ed.)

  • Event organizers, RSO's and the match director should be clearly identifiable (all officials could wear a safety vest or other identifiable item.) The general assumption was that everybody knew everyone which is not the case. All officials should have a name tag.
  • Each day should start with a clear and concise kick off (eg where the walk back procedures can be described and how the course of fire is going to be performed.) We figured it out but there were a couple of rocky starts.
  • Each stage should be clearly announced with the rules of fire. Assume people have no idea what is about to happen or what they should do. This removes confusion and excuses, especially if the course of fire is going to change.
  • Firing line procedures for clearing of rifles needs to be more organized and safer (identifiable RSO's would help with this.) Having cleared rifles point away from the firing point was strange. I personally felt uncomfortable with the number of times a muzzle was pointed in my direction, regardless if it had been cleared.

Advice to new competitors:
  • A form of communication (radios) for the walkback is essential. Having never done a walk back/relay shoot/ working the butts my team mate and I had no way to communicate. We shared a radio with another team (Thanks Mike!) and that was invaluable.
  • A spotting scope is an important piece of equipment, your shots will not be indicated. At 600m you will have no way to see your hits on paper and watching trace from a rifle scope isn't always easy.
  • Ask lots of questions. Don't assume anything.

Cheers and see you all again next year!

That video was from your Kowa spotting scope/Iphone camera adapter system, it looks like.

Thanks for that, very nice.

Yet another reason to get a Kowa, heh.
