Ok, after a few bad experiences with my current 20" DI Armalite M-15 (National Match), namely not even being able to finish a day of shooting without many jams due to dirtyness of the bolt and reciever (I have to say that the range is very dusty on a warm-dry day, so it doesn't help), I've decided to retire old (un)faithful and get myself a piston driven AR.

I'm using the rifle for Service Conditions matches and Designated Marksmen matches, form ranges going from 25 meters up to 800 meters.

Ammunition is my reloaded match ammo using 75 grains bullets (so 1-8 twist minimum, 1-7 optimal), and with my current rifle, I manage to get 6 inches groups @ 500 meters (slightly over 1 MOA), on a day without too much wind.

Now I am contemplating a PWS MK118 (already own a MK107, so I'm slightly biased), but am open to other brands that I might not know of, if you have any to suggest.

I'm looking in the below the 3000$ price range, give or take a few 100s.

What do you think?

Interesting, I'd like to hear more about other options as I'm considering a new top line reliable ar as well. I'd like something with a greater than 14 shorter than 20 inch barrel.

i have a ruger sr556e, its a free float heavy barrel 2 piston system. Its a tac driver. I have never had any failure and its super easy to clean..... and its about 1/2 the price of the pws.

that being said i want to get a mk112 as my next gun...

I got the pws mk114 mod 1 and its so goooooooddd

I think you should just try different ammo/powder and check for problems with your gas system before switching to a piston system.
An AR shouldn't gum up like that after only a day of shooting.

Did you change out the rail/handguard? Because the SR 556 FB/C/E is not free floating because of the design of gas piston/gas block.

Sounds like your problem is the gun, not the fact that it is DI. Is it time to change worn out parts? How many rounds has it shot?

Lol @ some of you posting your 100m groups.
Shooting moa at 100m is a very different animal compared to doing it at 500...

I would exhaust all attempts at a fix for your current Armalite, but if you are set on a piston gun, the H&K is the only one I'd fork out money for.
I have a 20" Armalite NM barrel on one of my guns and it chokes on hotter loads - I've never confirmed it, but I suspect it is a fairly tight chamber.

yes a 5 inch group at 500 is a whole lot different than a 1 inch group at 100, even though they are both 1 moa, i think pretty much anyone that has shot past 200 yards understands that.
but we're just talking the rifle's aptitude here, not the shooter...
ive had some issues with wylde chambers in the past, although potentially extremely accurate with the right load, they jam quite often.

I'm loving my POF415. Very reliable, quite light and is very accurate. I just need to start feeding it better stuff. The factory trigger is beautiful too. I'd say a jp enterprises ar would be one step up if you're looming for a competition DMR rifle though. Sweeeet trigger on those things and a nice fat barrel too

Not to rub it in but I ran my DI M4 for a year without cleaning it once. Close to 2k rds. Never once jammed. I think there is something going on with your rifle.
