Hey can,

I was just reading up on barrel length laws and am thoroughly confused now. Can anyone clarify for me what the minimum barrel length is for a .22 semi auto rifle?!

Barrel Length can be manufactured by a business/gunsmith at any size, as long as the total length of the rifle ( in its shortest possible firing position) is greater than 26".

You can't cut your own barrel to less than 18.5" without it being a prohibited item, but you can buy a 8" barrel just fine.
Makes alot of sense hey?

Odd. But thank you! Am I correct in saying that's also illegal to convert a rifle into a bullpup even if its overall length is still 660m+?

It can't function when disassembled. The receiver and or trigger group has to be part of the stock or something.

Yep no set length if its a manufactured barrel. You could use a pistol barrel as long at the total length is 26"+ with the stock folded or collapsed. Dlask has some great looking sbr that would make people in the US wet themselfs. Could someone me what class is a sbr and if all the states are the same or if its only a few? Not that it really matters.
My understanding is centerfire rifles are restricted if under a certain barrel length.
Dont know if there are any very short barrels to buy ( 8")
I hope someone can inlighten us. Now my guess is after a certain length it turns into a prohibited gun even if its a manufactured barrel.
As far as I know. There is no such this is a registered gunsmith. Just a gun manufactur with the proper business licence.
Anyone can call themselfs a gunsmith. There is no Canadian standard for the business of beig a smith.
This is what I know but I could be wrong. Could someone also let us know please.

Its to bad about this law. The cooey could be made into a bullpup easily. I find it funny though. It saying cant be fired while apart. The cooey can when taken out of the stock. So can many other guns. So why write the law this way?

so there will always be a grey area . that way if they don't catch you breaking the law proper, they can give you death by lawyer.

There is a minimum barrel length of 4 1/8"... any length above this is legal as long as the barrel was manufactured by a registered manufacturer and the OAL is 26+".

In the USA the legislation pertaining to SBR's and full auto units and suppressors is Federal and requires Federal permits. The SBR tax stamp is $200... so there is one firearm benefit of being Canadian.

105mm applies to handgun barrels.

Where is it stated that a business must be a registered manufacturer to make barrels?

105mm applies to rifles too regarding any non-OEM modifications...

And regarding modifications... they cannot be made to existing OEM barrels with regard to lengths shorter than 18" by anyone... including by a manufacturer of barrels.

As far as whether a business has to be "registered" or not is something I will have to check... I won't say who told me that this is so... ;)

I hope someone will list the appropriate criminal code. I was under the belief that you need to be a registered manufactur to make guns and gun parts.
Is there a registered gunsmith list or Canadian standard to be called a smith?
From what I know. If you can take a gun apart, you could call yourself a gunsmith. This still doesnt mean you can make your own barrels for sale.
Joe and Jerry would know whats involved to make gun parts legally.

This has nothing to do with the criminal code or gunsmiths...

Ok getting back on track. There is a 105mm minimum length as long as its a manufactured barrel. Didnt know that but it makes sence!
The criminal code says you cant cut a barrel shorter than 18.5", correct?
What then is the definition of a manufactured barrel and who an make one?

As I said... this has nothing to do with the Canadian Criminal Code...
