Duck hunting from kayak

You might find it useful to look at an Otter Stealth boat, even if only for what the comparison might suggest about getting a canoe or kayak.

Don't know about the shooting at Popcan's place, but I have shot 12 gauge 3" waterfowl loads from every conceivable angle, from broadside to laterally behind me and never had a even a "close" moment... but I grew up in canoes and I am very comfortable there... at 6'4" & 260 if I can do it anyone can do it...






Except a guy that's 6'8" & 360... then you are on your own.

How busy is the range in Pitt Meadows? I didn't even know one was there until you mentioned it...

You should add pontoons to your research about kayaks. They are quite popular with the fishermen, so they can stand and fish from a kayak.

I was planning on doing something like this to my kayak for fishing purposes, but I bet it could be quite useful for duck hunting.

edit - US Walmart has really good prices on cheaper kayaks, if you happen to be within a reasonable distance to the border.

Look up the "Swamp Fox" also... the are a small light boat but amazingly stable... I had one years ago... I haven't seen ant around in years, but you might find them perfect for you.

On small water, sometimes less is more... I just strap a decoy bag with half a dozen to the front deck... often go back with the same number of dead ducks as dekes.

After I posted, I googled Swamp Fox and came up with nothing... I will keep looking, and will post here if I find anything.. it was kind of a cross between a kayak and a punt... only 10 feet long, but stable... I had one 25 years ago and used it for a number of years... I sold it on a whim and immediately regretted it... that boat could get me into some tight places and was easy to transport.
 
I have been considering a kayak for duck hunting as well.

I'm a big fan of kayaks - darn stable and lots of room in them. Not a fan of canoes at all... I'd say go for it. Very easy to keep a low profile, quiet, fast, great in shallow water, can carry tons of gear in the compartments and even more on the deck. Definitely put your paddle and gun on a leash though!
