Just curious which brand of AR15 rifles use 7075 aluminum-alloy for the receiver and which use 6061, from common brands like Norinco, Daniel Defense, Colt, Bushmaster, etc.

DPMS uses 6061 in some of their 308 lowers.
Midwest Industries also use 6061 in their billet uppers and lowers.
NEA - 6061.
DD - 7075
Rainer Arms - 7075
BCM - 7075
CORE - 7075
Windham Weaponry - 7075

The type of aluminum used doesn't point out if the rifle is quality or not. Pieces of #### are being built in 7075, too.

Please don't try to make sense in this forum...it's easier for everyone to just say that receivers made of 7075 are awesome and 6061 are junk. End of discussion.

If you are the type of shooter, that wait in the salt water or mud or other bad place for waiting like a viet cong to get your paper target to come in your line.... you need to worry and get 6061. Wiki will said that 6061, have better resist capability too corosion, but the 7075 have a better resistance to stress and friction.

Choose the AR you like and buy it.

Thanks Runningfool. Very informative, and I also read a dumbed down version that I could understand :). "Tooth brush handles are made of plastic and never break, that isn't to say that a stainless steel toothbrush handle wouldn't be stronger, it is. Completely unnecessary, but stronger sure."

What I also read is that in a few engineering applications 6061 T6 is preferable to the more expensive 7075, apparently to a machinists bane as they have problems turning 6061 (won't chip, rather gummy and "bird nests" on them" vs. the 7075 which chips away nicely.

Thanks again for the link, I have issues with the cgn search feature.
